Antminer S1 keeps burning out PSU

I have gone through 2 power supplies in 24 hours
every time i connect it runs at 180 gh and gives of a buring smell
i clipped the blue wire to make the fan run at full speed, why do my power supply keep buring out? they overheat and die
has anyone heard of this?

It would help if you told us what power supplies you're using and what kind of ambient temps you are in.  Are you overclocking the S3?  What frequency?  What firmware are you running?  Are you on 120v or 240v?

I used some unnamed one at 550 and a thermal-take at 600 but i read up and realized it was drawing too many watts through one pcie and burned them out, i researched and bought a cx750m and haven't had a problem, up and running for 4 hours

Ambient temp is 72 running temp now is 35 after 7hrs of runtime
no overclock now (s1) and may be planning on doing it to 375 and maybe 400 is all goes well and it runs for 24 hrs at least with no problem at stock
i am using a 120v plug
anything i should be doing that i am not? im new to this

You added the second fan so you have push pull. This helped cooling mine no end.

no name china PSU are mostly overrated so if you see large numbers 750W expect 400-500 when 850 expect 450-550.
Buy better brand or server PSU

I burnt up a thermalake 600w PSU I got for free in about 5 mins with a single S1 and normal speeds... what a piece of junk.

used lots of 650w corsair PSUs with no problems.

even used several 500w server psus with no problems

If the PSU weighs less than 3 pounds it's probably trash (for mining at least).  Compare weights between a Seasonic 500W and a Raidmax 500W - almost a 2 pound difference in weight.

For the more technical people all you need to do is look at the 12V specs and see how many Amps the PSU can output.

Well if you go to PSU review website like http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=201 you will see that they verbally "take apart" the PSU.  Cheaper ones use crappy sinks and cheap caps and lower quality components.  All that metal does have a cost and the cheap companies don't need to cool the PSUs since they'll blow up before they even get hot for extended times

Your explanation made me think of Jurassic Park when they were sitting in the trucks by the Tyrannosaurus paddock... the power has gone out and the kids start digging through stuff...Tim pops up wearing night vision goggles.

I'm using the Thermal-Take one, Don't use the PCIe piggy backing on the other one. Use 1 PCI-e and cut the ATX wires and connect them to the Ground and +12v on the antminer, if you want...

Sounds like you are using cheapo PSUs.  I use the HP DPS-800GBA + Gigampz breakout board for all my S3's they are reliable as heck I've never had one fail and each one can power 2 S3's either stock clocks or over clocked.
