Why to Join

P2Pool is the best "pool", IMHO, because of the fact that it is anonymous. Unlike other "normal" pools like slush's pool or GHASH.IO, P2Pool has no central server. Therefore, it is almost impossible to take it down. Normal pools like Eligius are dependent on their server being up. If it's down, you can't mine with them. P2Pool has hundreds of nodes for you to choose from. If one goes down, just switch! The mining itself is easy - you get paid if you put your address as your username. Nodes can choose whether or not to take a fee, but in this case, I'm not taking any fees. I see P2Pool as the future of Bitcoin mining because it's so hard to take down.

How to Join

Point any SHA256 miner to stratum+tcp://bitbizpool.hopto.org:9332 and put your Bitcoin address as the username. Payouts are made when a block is found. If you don't get any money, it means your payment was so minutely small it was rolled over into the next round.

You can check your current statistics - or rather those of your Bitcoin address - at bitbizpool.hopto.org:9332. Statistics are updated every 30 minutes, so if you just started mining, don't expect to see anything going on there. Payouts are made after 6 block confirmations.
