Sending it to a valid address is not by chance (although possible, but highly improbable). You obviously copied that address somewhere, or paid to that address in the past. Try to retrace your steps and every address you've ran across. There is a much higher chance of you getting it back if you went directly to the source to ask for it back, rather than sit here and wait for the owner of that address to stumble upon this thread by accident, then recognize that is his address.

I intended to send the btc to coinbase. Here is what I think happened. In coinbase clicked on receive money, clicked on get btc address, copy address, but copy address did not work and I pasted an address that was already on the clipboard (windows 7).

Do you know for sure that the address you had on your clipboard was for someone who is actually on this forum or would see this thread? You could be spending a whole chunk of time waiting for the person in question to see it. I would personally see if you can remember where you got the address from that was on your clipboard and see if you can contact that person themselves rather than wait, at least then you know your problem will be resolved quicker than sat waiting.

It is possible to say, that it was a miner (or miner pool) with significant hash power.

I think those coins are off in never to regain unless ya happen to stumble upon that priv key as that addy has not been used in a year.... doubt the owner even has key for it any more.... good luck though,

But thats the exact same address you send the money to. I dont understand. Did you send the coins to where you were supposed to or did you send them to another address from your clipboard. If you send it to the one from your clipboard, what did you do before you made the TX?

Its very unlikely that someone just mistypes an address. Due to the checksum at the end chances are OP either used the correct address and coinbase has problems or OP used an address from the clipboard that somehow ended there in the first place. You dont usually copy "random" bitcoin addresses from somewhere.

Sometimes its odd when you receive a TX that you do not expect, but in the end I allways figured out where to coins came from.

You are most likely infected with coin-stealing malware. If you're using Google Chrome, remove any bitcoin-related extensions that you may have installed. You should also do a virus scan with a good virus scanner like Malwarebytes:

lool from that post it seems a former ghash employee switched the mining address and got some free funds for several days


the last transaction on that address was 2013-09-30 10:00:03 nearly a year ago, looks like the op copied and pasted the wrong address and will be luky to get these back

Certainly, but if someone claims that they would not return something that was accidentally sent to them, then I am going to personally consider that person to be untrustworthy and will leave them feedback indicating such.

i would def. return them to the source if i receive an unexpected transaction. and i hope that the majority of the BTC
