Regulating fan speed manually

Hi

Has anyone tried to regulate the fan speed manually. I got a Rockminer T1 box and it's loud. Once in a while I have to sit next to it and I was thinking to set it to half hashing speed and then lower the speed on the 4 fans manually.

Some sort of solution with a potentiometer. My hardware skills aren't so good, so i would prefer a complete solution I can put in between the fan power connector and the fan.

I would also need some instrument to measure the temperature at the heatsinks. Thermistor perhaps.

Opinions appreciated.

Don't lower the fan speed on a T1, it does actually require that level of cooling. See my thread in sig for T1 thread.

Listen to Dogie the stock fans are moving a lot of air so lowering the fans speed will overheat the gear. I have an asic miner tube uses same chips it is loud but I am going to be able to make it quieter by adding a second fan.

I also ordered 2x 140mm inch fans so keep an eye on that thread and on thur I will post info on the 140mm fan results I have a good sound meter.  While it may or may not be able to help it should be worth reading. And read Dogie's thread on your gear he has lots of good info. His threads have always been good for me to read.

So, even if I lower the hashing rate to half or less, it will still produce the same amount of heat. Is was under the impression that it would use less power also.

You can do that, but quite honestly why would you 0_o Chips will only drop so much power, quite a bit of it is determined by voltage rather than frequency.

Yes I know it's a bit odd. Most of the time it's hashing away at full speed (300MHz), no problem. However, once in a while I have to sit next to it for a couple of hours. So for my own mental health and hearing it would be nice for me to have a temporary option to slow it down instead of just completely cutting the power like I do now.

you can use small radiators and stick on particular chips.
Replace fans with quieter ones, add desk fan at back of the miner.
Use decent fan controller wchich check temperatures and change rpm on the fly.

I have modded a lot of miners, had silent dragon, btcgarden, antminer.

First I'll buy a thermometer and then measure the temperature at the heatsinks when running at 100MHz, 200MHz, 300MHz. If there's no difference I'll dump the idea. If enough difference I think I'll try it out.

Dogie, would you in your professional opinion say the T1 could benefit from a higher CFM fan?
