Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

overstock and new egg and all these new businesses are accepting btc's out of desperation.  There service/products/deals suck.  Its like you have to go on a treasure hunt to save 40 cents.

You can't just trust any new merchant who start accepting bitcoins only because you have bitcoins to spend. You can still spend bitcoins here to buy Amazon Gift cards and get the things you want.

Overstock is at early stages on accepting bitcoin payments may be they are having some trouble handling the transactions there
