On what sport/team should Bitcoin sponsor?

bitcoin does not need sponsorship, just like dollar does not need sponsorship. its for businesses such as bitpay, coinbase, overstock that should sponsor sport events for their business benefits.

the only reason dogecoin done a sponsorship is not due to it being deemed as a useful 'currency' (lack of actual merchant acceptance), but most see dogecoin as holding a bag of crap. and those holding the bag of crap would do anything to try passing their crap onto anyone they can. and would do anything to get noobs to buy into their crap

Sponsoring a team is expensive and requires a specific company "you can't relay on community donations to make a contract". I think with the current size of bitpay and other notable exchangers they can sponsor a 2 level football league team or a college american football team.

Any Sport that isn't eSport or some geeky novelty sport. Bitcoin needs to be taken seriously and thus needs to cater to the regular public. Apart from the US soccer is a universally liked sport. It may be too expensive, but I could see that being the right way to go....

Well, bitcoin releated businesses may or may not sponsor entire sport or specific team in the future, but BitPay is already sponsoring a particular match.  It's a college football game in St. Petersburg.  Perhaps you've heard of it by now?

I don't think this really counts as "bitcoin" sponsoring something. It is something that bitpay is sponsoring to try to get more people to use bitcoin so they can process more transactions on behalf of their customers (and make more money from doing so). They already have a large market share in the payment processing world, however a merchant account is not profitable unless people use bitcoin to purchase things from them. By getting more people to use bitcoin then more people will likely use bitcoin to buy things from bitpay's customers.

There are far more effective marketing activities that Bitcoin could engage in, if it was decided that promotion was even necessary.  Sponsorship, in fact produced negligible returns that are almost impossible to quantify/account for
