Hi, everyone.

We are talking about the friedcat's ASICMINER :

ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It

Here is the pain:

Going to asicminer's homepage , clicking English and then boom hieroglyphs.
Going to the Facebook Fan Page of AM and there is an update about a recent meeting, but the transcript is in guess what language. Chinese.

Here is the plan:

I. News Translation and a Dashboard-like site for Asicminer

1. I wish to organize a translation effort from Chinese to English of all the Asicminer related information that comes out every day/week.
2. To gather it all into a dashboard like website.

II. Project Budget and Crowdfunding

I know there have been 2 efforts at this in the past. One site I remember was asicminer.info or sth similar and the other effort was a google spreadsheet. Both stopped working after a while if I get it right. Maybe we can join our forces together? Or use some wisdom from past experience?

I am willing to spend 100 usd worth of btc of my own pocket for starters on this endeavour.

Donations are welcome too, but not given to me, since I am a new profile. A respected forum member or escrow agent can be used as a treasurer.

If more people here decide they would like to help,
please pledge the amount in a PM or in this thread. PM pledges will be announced as a total sum.

For non/little-english speakers : "to pledge" means "to say you would give money in the future" - like on Kickstarter. Just so we know from the start our budget roughly.

===========

Concrete next steps would be:
1. WE making a list of translation targets (first pages to start with) from asicminer's homepage http://www.iasicminer.com/. The news section goes first ?
2. We in this thread listing all the urls of resources about hashrate, financial reports, specs etc.
3. Me hiring a translator to begin with the news section. Result will be posted on a weebly website. Anyone has better idea than weebly ? Its noobish but its exactly what I like about weebly.

Here is what I gave to the translator as a start:

Hi, I need Chinese to English translation.
It's a webpage:
http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-channel-name-newen
Should I export to pdf/doc ? Or the url is enough?

Specific instructions what to translate there:
ONLY the titles of the news. For Example the 1st two titles are:
1. 烤猫官方矿机,终极降价大酬宾,800G+,仅0.79BTC
2. 烤猫绿方(AM-TUBE)第二轮销售开始
...

Also go into the first 2 news articles and translate the whole texts:
1.  http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-viewnews-itemid-56
2. http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-viewnews-itemid-55

Here is a bit of help with the technical terms , there is an english thread that describes more or less the same thing, so some words from there can be taken more easily:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735728.0
( Scroll down to where it says "Round 2 Sales
Full 10-devices set including:"

To find the parts lists...

Also I need this twitter translated:
https://twitter.com/ASICMinerANN

When you reach 400 words I will buy another 400 words.

Cheers.

After seeing some results, I'd throw a bit of BTC toward this endeavor. How much does translating 400 words or so cost?

400 words cost 5 usd on fiverr.

Maybe if we need to, we can find a better deal.

Let's see some results.

UPDATE:
OK. First results arrived from translators.

The FAQ page at http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-channel-name-faq

Price on this one was: 0.05 btc ~ 23.5 usd @ 470 usd per btc
It has 1356 english words ( counting 1-letter words too ) .
This makes: 23.5/1356*400 = 6.93 usd / 400 words . Compared to the 5 usd/400words on fiverr it's not too bad. Maybe will come equal if we dont count 1,2,3 lettered words.

Translator says it took them 2 hours. So 23.5/2 = 11.75 usd / hour

The FAQ page at http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-channel-name-faq

Question:

1. How to buy your miner? 2. Is it pre-sale or is it in stock? 3. How do you cooperate with your reseller agents?
Answer:

1. If purchasing less than ten miners, go to our authorized dealer to buy (all agents are on the same level, there is no general agent), authorized dealer list: (authorized dealer link (EDITOR NOTE: link not available on webpage) ) If you are purchasing more than ten miners, please contact the website on the right side using the online sales customer service.

2. We do not provide pre-sales for a long time, all we sell is in stock or we pre-sell for a very short time.

3. We do not sign any cooperation or contracts except directly buying or selling miners.

Q: what is the miner's current price?
Single miner price: 0.79 bitcoins;
Single miner's hash power: between 800-850GH/s;
Note: the official minimum order quantity is 1 set, 1 set contains 10 assembled miners and three controllers.

Q: when can we buy the miner?
The miner will be released soon, we will announce detailed parameters and prices. ( EDITOR NOTE: see this thread: Topic: ASICMiner Tube Sales Information Thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735728.0 )

Q: what should be paid attention to when we pay you via bank ?
Answer: The bank transfer fees are different, so please use the “instant transfer” when transfering the money. You should always pay several more cents so that we can check the money easier/faster.
(note: transfer message must not contain "bitcoin", "miner" , etc words)

Q: do you support payment after the arrival of the miners?
A: No. All agents and individual buyers, need to pay first.

Q: if I don't want to buy the miners after reserving the orders, can I return?
A: no, miners once sold won’t be refunded or returned. Please think twice before buying.

Q: Do you provide any warranty?

First, within 72 hours, for non-artificial damage on the hardware, we provide replacement service. Buyers bear the freight charges.

Second, within 90 days, for non-artificial damage on the hardware, we provide warranty service. Buyers bear the freight charges.

Third, if the miners are broken between 90 days and 180 days, we provide money to cover the fixing costs . Buyers bear the freight charges.

Fourth, our company provides redundancy ratio of hash power for large orders, but for the redundant part there is no warranty.

Clients who bought miners from the agents can communicate the warranty problems with the agents, the company will have further communications with the agents.

Added: the price provided by agents cannot be higher than the official price, once found, immediately cancel the agent qualification.

Q: which shipping company do you use, how long can I receive the miner?
A: we use SF Express with "freight collect", it requires clients to pay the freight charges when receiving the miner.
We ship the miners within 48 hours once clients ordered and paid the money. For most of the cities in China it takes 2-4 working days to arrive.

Q: can your miner be used to mine Litecoin(LTC)?
A: no, our miners are only used to mine the digital currencies of the SHA-256 algorithm.

Q: how to become your agent?

First, fill in the agent application form (download address: ( EDITOR NOTE: link missing here )) and send to sale@bitquan.com

Second, the Channel specialist will review and confirm with the applicants if approved.

Three, approved applicants submit the agency materials (contact the Channel specialist, Channel specialist’s QQ: 1327573930).

Fourth, we sign an agency contract with you.

Fifth, starting to the distribution and cooperation.

Q: where can we get official information about you ?
You can get our official information from the following four sources:

1. The official sina weibo: @ASICMiner销售部 (http://weibo.com/u/5195261989);
2. The official twitter: @ASICMinerANN (https://twitter.com/ASICMinerANN);
3. The website: this site iasicminer.com;
4. Our BitcoinTalk official account: Phasebird; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=337449

In addition to the information above is the unofficial information, please do not believe that in order to avoid unnecessary losses!

Q: can we visit your company?
We offer sample mining farms to visit in Shenzhen, Jiangsu and Beijing. We welcome the medium and large customers to come to communicate and cooperate.

( EDITOR NOTE: this text may be inaccurate ! )
Q: why can't I open the web page after connecting the main controller ?
OTO connection cable A should be connected to the Ethernet controller near the Net export, check whether the connection is correct or not.
( EDITOR NOTE: end of uncertain text )

Q: one or more hash power boards can’t be found?
5 pin toggle switch should toggle to different values, check it; Re-examine OTO cable to ensure that the connection is normal.

Q: why is the hash power less than 800 GHash?
The hash power of the miner is the average value within the period of time. If you have diifficulty with a mining pool, restart the Ethernet controller or connect to different mining pools to see if the  hash power will have changes.

Q: why the efficiency of one or two board is less than 90%?
The hash power of a single board may fluctuate, you should observe the average hash power for a long time. The hash power board is sensitive to the external conditions such as temperature, voltage, and the chips got the influence of encapsulation and pasted, therefore there are tiny differences, these differences may be cumulative, resulting in a lower hash rate.

Q: why there are "crack" sounds when the miner is working, the chip surface has burst with smoke?
This is chip burst, chips have bubbles that exist in the process of encapsulation and mounting, heat cannot conduct to the radiator, leading to the chip burst. Single chip bursting does not affect the other chips, it just leads to a loss of one chip's hash power of about 9.6G. If the frequency of a single board is running in the 270M range, and total hash power is less than 180G, it can be replaced for free.

Q: where can I see PCB, CAD details?
Friedcat TUBE is based on X24 open source solution for miner BE200 chip design.
Open source information is as follows:
PCB file: https://github.com/blockerupter/AM_BE200_X24/archive/master.zip
CAD: https://github.com/blockerupter/AM_Tube

Q: What are ASICMINER's TUBE parameters, power consumption, power supply? How much is the price? Is there any quantity limitation for the purchase?
1. ASICMINER TUBE single power: 800-850GH/s; Power consumption: 1.0 w/gh is influenced by the current environment temperature and power tranfer efficiency;
2. A set of 10 miners includes a controller for: 7.9 BTC
3. The minimum order quantity is at least ten

Q: you are selling the parts, how can we configure and assemble?
Official installation and configuration instructions for details click on: http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-viewnews-itemid-30

Q: what is the miner purchase process?
For details, please see: http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-channel-name-payment

Q: can I use fiat to purchase?
Fiat and bitcoin are accepted; Compared with fiat, bitcoin payment have a larger discount, it is strongly recommended that; fiat price is the bitcoin exchange rate + 5%;

Q: do you provide warranty if the miner were bought from other places?
Our service is only for official purchase from us directly (including from the official agents). If you buy from any other markets, please contact the seller to provide services.

Q: what kind of controller, power supply configuration is?
Controller power supply is DC12V1A, also can use an AC/DC converters to replace, or get the electricity by directly using a power cable from your miner power supply.

Q: can I purchase the whole machine? Is it more expensive?
At present all miners are sold in the whole machine, it inculdes 10 miners in each set, a set of price is: 7.9 BTC, consists of three controllers.

Q: Can I mine in f2pool.com ?
miner can't directly mine in f2pool.com. If you want to mine there, you need a PC or a raspberry PI through a proxy, the controller needs to use a proxy to connect to the pool. Users can download the bfgminer software.

Download address: https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=626361
Here is a raspberry PI intermediate proxy tutorial: http://www.iasicminer.com/index.php/action-viewnews-itemid-53

Q: what to do when Ghash is down or any other pools are down?
You can use the company poolswitcher to automatically switch miner information.

EDIT :  changed TRANSLATOR NOTE to EDITOR NOTE - because I, am-informer made those after the translator gave me his text.

EDIT 2 : corrected further for wrong prepositions, a/the and better style and readability.

two things more: I am waiting on the translation of two of the most recent news articles on the iasicminer.com's news section , and also the whole twitter page at https://twitter.com/ASICMinerANN .

So anyone willing to pledge some btc amount on that project now? Just say that you pledge. Payment to a trusted escrow agent will be arranged later.

This shows you either did not read the translator's work before posting, you don't know that f2pool is Discus Fish, or you have not been reading related info on the tubes posted by friedcat himself to know that this was in fact referencing Discus Fish - none of which are positive signs for a first impression.  Try getting a technically literate translator.

This shows you either ...

Instead of TRANSLATOR NOTE, I should've written EDITOR note or something , because these notes are mine.

It is a bit hard to find a chinese-english translator with good english and  that is asicminer-literate. Also fast and cheap Wink

Any suggestions where should I look ?

I had to proof-read the translation to correct little styling errors and it was at this stage that I wrote the TRANSLATOR NOTES.

Now I am gonna edit and remove the last one and also make them EDITOR notes.

On the topic of finding a propper translator, believe me I am trying Wink And I will keep trying until I succeed.

I am working with 3 translators, one was awful, second one's work is above and it is more or less ok. The third one will be ready with two of the news articles in 2-4 days and I hope he is the best so far.

The awful translator was found on fiverr. The second one with the FAQ is from this forum and the third is also from  bitcointalk .

okay, I made several edits above to make the language style / grammar quality above better and also changed "TRANSLATOR NOTES" to "EDITOR NOTES" to take the blame off the translator where it is not his but mine.

It is interesting to see FUD-sters or is it just confused people with good intentions who try to smear this project for being a google translation project...  pretty amazing

lol guys fish pond for the cat to catch fish Smiley https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=99497.msg8848303#msg8848303

I guess we continue translating from own pocket and keep it up.

0) Introduction
ASICMiner’s Tube is the official release of their open sourced x24 reference design and their first consumer product release in 9 months. It features 4 hashing boards, each featuring 24 BE200 generation 3 chips arranged around a central aluminium core heatsink. Lightweight stands at each end allow the units to be stacked and 8 miners can be daisy chained to one controller. Tubes can be purchased preassembled or as kits.
Chips - 96x ASICMiner Gen3
Rated Hash Rate - ~830GH, 920GH (OC)
Rated Voltage - 12V
Rated Current - 75A, 85A (OC)
Power Consumption - ~900W, 1025W (OC)
[First 3 pictures]
0b) What you need
You need some accessories and a power supply. (Taobao or JD.com and more)

0c) Parts List
Each unassembled ASICMiner Tube kit will contain the following parts. Please check you have all the components before getting started.
[picture]
4x Hashing boards
[picture]
1x controller
[picture]
4x heatsink blocks
[picture]
4x data cables (1 long)
[picture]
156+ M3*6, 4x M4*8, 4x M4*55, 4x washers
[picture]
1x 120mm fan grill, 1x 'X' stand, 1x 'square' stand
[picture]
1x 120mm fan
[picture]
1.5+ sheets of thermal compound

0d) Tools Required
With 164 screws to assemble each Tube, using the right screwdriver will save you significant time. Everything can be done with a 3.0mm slotted screwdriver, but its very important that the handle and blade is thin otherwise you won't be able to access some of the screw holes. You will need this regardless of whether you choose to get a handheld electric screwdriver as well.

It is recommended to get a light, handheld electric screwdriver as the time savings will pay for themselves and you'll also have a useful tool for the house. Don't bother using a normal large drill as they're too cumbersome and you risk damaging the miner. Whichever one you chose, make sure it has variable torque otherwise you'll strip screw heads. Some suitable recommendations are included below, as well as the correct manual screwdriver.

1) Assembly
Those who purchased their Tubes fully constructed can skip to section two. Assembly consists of 9 major stages. Please make sure you've completed each stage before you move on, reread the instructions before proceeding to make sure you're not going to damage your Tube.

Step 1
Locate the four heatsink blocks and stand them all upright so the row with 6 screws holes are at the top - this orientation is important! Interlock their corners one at a time to create a closed box, still standing on its end.
Step 2
Locate the ‘X’ shaped stand and the four m4*8 screws – these are the fatter screws kept in a separate bay. Screw the stand into the heatsink blocks to hold them together.
Step 3
Locate the ‘square’ shaped stand, the four m4*55 screws, the four plastic washers, the fan and the fan grill. Hold the fan grill over the stand in one hand, and in the other guide the screws through each corner hole. Then, squeezing all the screws to prevent them falling out, place it all on the table. Place the plastic washers onto the screws. Do not forget this step! Place the fan onto the screws, with its supporting frame facing the fan grill. You should have the sandwich as pictured as below.
Step 4
This is the last fiddly step of the build. Locate the controller and rest the heatsink half down onto it so only 1-2 cm of the controller is exposed. Holding the fan sandwich together, rest it on the final bit of the controller. The fan will want to rotate down from the top edge so keep that edge pinned in. Slowly mate the two surfaces and screw in each of the corners. Be careful to not over-tighten these screws and bend the plastic of the fan. Once completed, you have the basic structure of the ASICMiner Tube done!
Step 5
Locate the sheet of thermal compound and peel off a strip. It isn’t sticky but it is statically charged and will cling to anything and everything it touches (including dust and dirt). Try and place it as straight as possible the first time, preferably on the top horizontal surface of the Tube. You can place it a few times, and keep picking it to straighten it and to remove bubbles.
Once you’re happy with the placement, massage any pockets of air to the outer edges. Peel back one corner and visually locate one of the screw holes before replacing the thermal compound and flattening it again. Carefully puncture the compound with a screwdriver – this is to help you line up the board in the next step.
Step 6
Locate a hashing board. Carefully slide it under the handles into place – connectors facing the fan. If it appears too long immediately stop and do not force it into place. Check that you have correctly placed the plastic washers between stand and fan or fan and heatsink.
Screw in 3 or 4 of the corner screws  to line up the board, using the aligning holes you made in the step before if required. Locate the bag of m3*6 screws and screw in all the screw holes in the board starting from the center in a spiral. This action pattern helps remove any air trapped between the board and thermal compound. For speed I would recommend adding all the screws to the hole first, before tightening them.
Step 7
Check and then double check all screws have screws in them and have been tightened. Every screw is required to prevent local overheating. Repeat steps five and six for all 4 hashing boards, rotating the Tube each time so you are always working on the top horizontal surface for ease.
Step 8
Locate the four data cables. Using the three shorter cables and starting at any board (board A), wire it to the next board (board B). Wire board B to the next board (board C), and wire board C to the next board (board D). From either board A or D, wire the long cable to the controller's port closest to the ethernet port (labelled UART1). Plug the fan into any of the hashing boards.
Step 9
Flip the Tube over and check that all screws are present and screwed in. Make sure that the 5 bit switch on each mining board sharing a controller is unique.

2) Powering
Tubes do not come with a power supply, and you will need a typical computer PSU with 8xPCI-E 6 pin power connectors. Strictly only 4 PCI-E connectors are required at stock speeds, however it will reduce cable temperatures by utilising all 8. I would strongly recommend the PSU above as it has 8 PCI-E cables andthick 16 AWG wiring. While you can power the same miner with multiple power supplies, under no circumstances should you attempt power the same mining board with different power supplies.

We also need to tell the PSU to always be on, as there isn't a motherboard to do this. Cut a paperclip into a U and insert it into the green wire and either black wire to the side of the green wire. Tape it up for safety. The power supply will now be controlled by its switch on the rear socket.

The controller board also requires a 12V 2.5mm barrel connector, 1A minimum.

3) Cooling
A single, high static pressure 120mm fan is used to cool the central aluminium core. Noise levels are reasonable considering the 900W of heat being removed with a single fan. If construction instructions were following correctly, the fan should be in a pull arrangement.

It is noteworthy that the end closest to the fan may become very hot to the touch extremely hot to the touch (including the handles) during operation, so please be careful during handling and maintenance.
4) Case
The central aluminium heatsink provides the core of the frame and structure of the miner, and is supplemented by radial feet at either end. Both are constructed of low weight aluminium, giving an overall miner weight of just 6KG for a near 1TH unit. Tubes are stackable both side to side and top to bottom. The addition of a rubber strip between miners would be beneficial to reduce vibration.
5a) Configuration
An external 32bit PIC board is used as the controller, and can handle 8 daisy chained Tubes.

Wiring:

1. Plug in an ethernet cable from the controller board to you router.
2. Plug in the three wired long cable from the miner to the white socket on the controller board closest to the ethernet port.
3. Make sure each mining board sharing a controller has a unique 5 bit switch code. See the troubleshooting section for all the codes.
4. Plug in all eight PCI-E connectors into the Tube.
5. Plug in the 12V barrel connector into the controller board.

Software:

1. Power on the power supply using its switch at the back.
2. Make sure or your router's subnet is 0, ie 192.168.0.x. If not then change it to 0, this is just temporary. ***If this is not possible, see below***
3. Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.0.254:8000 - this goes to the Tube's configuration page.
4. Navigate to Settings.
5. Change IP to something memorable, and on your preferred subnet.
6. Change gateway to the IP of your router.
7. Change primary DNS to the IP of your router.
8. Change secondary DNS to "8.8.8.8".
9. Enter Pool URL in the format as below. Please see below notes on pool selection.
10. Enter the port of your pool.
11. Enter your miner username and password.
12. Set ASIC clock at 270 for stock speeds and 300 for overclocked speeds.
13. Click update and restart.
14. Navigate back to the IP of the miner you set to check mining started.
15. You can then change your router subnet back to whatever you are used to using.

Alternative Subnet Change:

1. Unplug your computer from all internet sources.
2. Plug in an ethernet cable from the controller to your computer.
3. Navigate to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings.
4. Right click on your ethernet adapter -> Properties.
5. Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click properties.
6. Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the following:
7. IP Address: 192.168.0.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.0.254.
8. Plug in an ethernet cable from the controller to you router.
9. Restart the configuration instructions as above.

***Only the below pools work directly with Tubes due to a current error in the firmware. Other pools will require the use of a proxy (see next section).***

5b) Configuration - Using Proxy (Optional)
To use pools outside of the above list, a proxy must be used. These instructions are for BFGMiner on Windows, but the same can be replicated on a Pi or Linux.
Using BFGMiner:

1. Download BFGMiner. Extract it to "C:\Program Files (x86)".
2. On the computer the proxy is running on, open a command prompt window (run/search and type cmd).
3. Enter "ipconfig /all". Scroll down to your computer to find its IP address.
4. Using a browser, navigate to the Tube's configuration page.
5. Enter the computer's IP address into the "Pool URL" field. Enter "3333" into the "Pool Port" field.
6. Username and password fields do not matter (enter x in both). Click Update/Restart.
7. Create a .bat file in notepad (by saving it as .bat) and save it on your desktop. Put the following text inside, changing the pool url and miner login as desired.

Optional:

1. If you want the proxy to start in the background when you turn your computer on, navigate to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler.
2. From the right hand list, select "Create Basic Task". Name it "Start Proxy" and click "Next". Select the trigger "When the computer starts" and click "Next".
3. Select "Start a Program" and click "Next". Browse to your desktop and select the .bat we created. Click "Next", select the tick box and click "Finish".
4. Select "Run whether user is logged on or not" and tick the check box "Run with highest privileges". Click "Okay".

6) Troubleshooting

Problem
Solution
How do I set up more than one miner on one controller?
There is a 5 bit switch on each hashing board which must be configured to be unique in order for the controller to detect it. Set the first miner’s boards as “MINER1” in the below diagram, the second’s as “MINER2” etc. The long cable from one unit should be plugged into the empty connection on the other to daisy chain the connections on the other.
How do I reset settings to default?
Hold and press the black push button on the controller board.
My power supply’s cables are braided r aren’t color coded.
See below diagram for pin-outs.

UPDATE:
OK. First results arrived from translators.

Q: if I can mine in f2pool.com (TRANSLATOR NOTE: maybe here they mean P2P pool ? )?
miner can't directly to mine in f2pool.com. If you want to mine there, you need a PC or a raspberry PI through a proxy, the controller needs to use a proxy to connect the pool. Users can download bfgminer software.

This shows you either did not read the translator's work before posting, you don't know that f2pool is Discus Fish, or you have not been reading related info on the tubes posted by friedcat himself to know that this was in fact referencing Discus Fish - none of which are positive signs for a first impression.  Try getting a technically literate translator.

the original is:鱼池, it means f2pool.com, which is a famous Chinese pool. Only Chinese miners know what the "鱼池" mean.

Therefore my translation is correct.
