Hi

I've finished my setup of the two S3s, but before starting, i want to confirm the following:

1. Is my setup ok? I kept the PSU between the miners as shown in the picture.  Is this safe and ok?

2. The paperclip I used (as shown in the picture), is hanging like it is.  Is it safe to keep it like that? If someone touches the paperclip, is there any danger to it?

I'm a newbie, had to ask the questions to make sure all is safe.

Just a few thoughts...

Wrap that paperclip with electrical tape.  I'm not a huge fan of having miners setup in a room with carpet but if that's what you are working with so be it.  Watch your temps and power chords.  Also, make sure it isn't in a high traffic area, you don't want anyone tripping over those wires!

Any pets in the house?  Cats are the bad...lol

Happy Mining!!!

My miners are in a room with carpet. Why do you not like that setup?

HiSoC8Y:

You might want to wrap the paper clip in electrical tape, or put it off to the side so nobody touches it.

No pets should be able to get into that room.

The power supply in the middle is fine.

And yea, you might want to tape together the wires and put the against the wall. You don't want anyone tripping over them, and breaking all the miners.

Miners doesn't like carpet, carpet generate lots of dust and cause static electricity. But if you are not having a lot then I guess its fine..

Try and put it in an unused area or room. A bit OTT but assume a miner will catch on fire, don't have it next to anything that can feed a fire! How's the temps? Get a large room fan on them if they are getting hot. If possible, monitor temps from your mobile while you're out and about. And yes put some electrical tape on that metal!

No problem with your technical setup per se, just as the others said, I'd put electrical tape on the paperclip jumper.

Personally, I'd put it in a room that I wouldn't have company in, like a storage closet, shed, basement, garage etc.

Living type rooms could be spell disaster if you have guests that knock over the table, kids that play with the PSU or Ant, or pets that like to jump on furniture.

Anyways good luck with your mini mine!   Grin

While humidity will decrease the risk for static shock thanks to the carpet it will also decrease the lifespan of PCBs on any miner.

Carpet is not really an issue, I mined for years on carpet.

Bigger issues - pets and kids.  If you don't have those then you're OK with physical issues.

Water flying into the unit is the other big concern.  Don't keep it near an open window or near a bathroom where somebody would shake their hands to dry them off.

You don't have to cover the paperclip but if it freaks you out just put electrical tape over it.

It's a good setup, I'd rather have the psu a bit farther just for heat purposes, also they paperclip is fine, I don't think its gonna electrocute anyone, Infact I'm touching it right now and nothing is happening, but I'd recommend wrapping it with some electrical tape just so it stays steady and doesn't move alot.

Happy mining!

Not a shabby looking setup at all.  Just want to echo the concerns of others in this thread with regards to cat's though.  They seem particularly drawn to the magic money producing heat boxes for some reason.  No wonder the Egyptians worshiped cat's for thousands of years!  They know a good thing when they see it! Smiley

Oh yeah, and if you have kids, definitely electrical tape around the exposed hard-wire on the PSU.

My first miner was my desktop with my nVidia 9600GS (right before I bought a bunch of AMD cards).  My daughter saw my open case and decided that because I had told her not to touch the fans that it was now acceptable to put a banana into the blower style fan.  Fortunately she didn't get hurt but the card didn't care much for the Chiquita.

So again kid and pets don't mix with fans and circuits.

thanks all. No worries, it's in my room, i lock it, no kids or physical movement around it.

I started mining with both S3s since 11 hours now, i was able to sleep with the noise (not too high honestly).

Now, I connected each S3 to the eligius pool with one wallet ID.

In the miner status page, i see all the details, but not understanding any of those numbers.  can someone refer me to a guide/tutorial on that page?

thanks

p/s. temperature for each miner is around 39-40 degrees, which i think is ok.

btw, i feel the S3s are cooling the room rather than making them warm, is this normal?

The back side which is against the wall is blowing out hot air, but not too much, normal heat from a computer.  But the front side, which is now behind me, it's kind of cooling room.

does your status page read close to this one.

if you kept the stock speed you should read

gh/s  5 s = 440 or so
gh/s avg = 440 or so

I am over-clocked and run higher 460-465

perfectly good numbers

errors are tiny  34 in 12 hours  accepted are pretty high 17,302
error rate is  hw= 34 divide by  DiffA =4,520,379 + DiffR = 14,847 + Hw = 34 or

34/ 4,535,260 = 0.000749 of 1  percent !!!

Discarded means nothing. Ignore it
any temp under 50 is good. 38 and 39 are great.
fan speeds under 2000 are really good
and 440 gh for stock clock of 218.75 is good

buy this :

http://www.amazon.com/Highland-91338-Triple-Strength-Assortment/dp/B000E16IPQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1410018727&sr=8-5&keywords=bungee+cords+with+hooks

it does not have to be the one listed but get or 2  long enough to wrap completely  around the 2 s-3 and under hook under the table .
They will keep everything in place and prevent falling miners.

Can you show us how you can chance a litecoin/dogecoin node? I've been interested but a lttle bit afraid to attempt it. Your entire write-up looks simple enough which i think I really could handle it. Thanks!
