Can anyone recommend a trusted and reliable BTC escrow service?

The only two I know of are BTCrow (which just went down recently and came back up, so it doesn't seem very reliable)

and ThruCoin, which I don't really know anything about. The website is very basic and I can't find any reviews of it.

You might wish to try the #bitcoin-escrow IRC channel.  It is attended to by individuals, many of whom are willing to serve as escrow (for a fee).  You can verify their trust history in the #bitcoin-otc Web of Trust (WoT).
