Hi,

I noticed there are some apps on the App Store that make the impression that if you play them you will earn bitcoins. Are these apps for real? I mean I don't want to waste my time playing them and generating nothing. I know I would probably get next to nothing anyway but I'm just starting out.
These apps are:

Bitcoin Dozer
The Ponz
Flappy Bitcoin

Any help what so even would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Amy

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

You will earn essentially nothing.  If you want to play and make money go farm gold/items in some MMO and sell it for Bitcoin.  There are games that utilize Bitcoin as in-game currency but presently the demand is not there.

Most likely they're either melware-encrypted Bitcoin Miners, (Once you download and play the app, the Author/Developer for the game mines using your phone) or they're just games that are about Bitcoins. I see these on the Android Market as well.

Here you can see the original thread by the author regarding the Ponz.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=668391.msg

Now, about actually getting some bitcoins, I did have the great experience of earning a couple of mili BTC in the summer playing the Ponz and ending in one of the first 3 places, about three times aa week. (and I certainly had a lot of fun playing it).

About a month ago, 3 weeks perhaps, the author apparently stopped running the high score register because (it is hinted or explained in the referred thread) he wanted to develop different business models for the game.

I have not tried the other games you mention, but my impression is that opportunities will come and go to actually earn some crypto coins. The Ponz appears to be on hold regarding that...

... and I still play it for fun (great that it still works in my oldie iPad 1). While I have not set myself to monitor net traffic on my wifi or otherwise attempted to watchdog what information the game might be sending (presumably mining activity), I strongly feel malware is not the case for that game.

If you're a newbie like me, you should get the best opportunity to get some free coins by watching the activity in several sub-forums here, and take on some of the opportunities... some providers open new exchanges or pages and give you some free coins by registering (some do, indeed offer that without dirty tricks or buts). Again, on the topic of games, particularly for the iPad, the Ponz did work for me as a way to earn a few mBTCs, and I hope it will be working again like that in the future.

Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure what farming for gold/items is but I'll look into that.

I noticed on the Ponz tread that he has stopped paying out. Something to do with fiat, not sure what that is but I'll look into that too. As they say you learn something new everyday haha.

Thanks again guys its much appreciated, I think I'll stop playing these and try something else.

That’s a very good app for sure. usually we get stuck only mining on computers and other devices abut if we can think of some other devices like android windows phone and other digital products then all the hash power been used by these digital  devices can be also utilized. Iphone is a big community and I think using some good network of iphone there can be a strong mining pool on iphone and it can be used for the mining system.
