Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

If you find this post, make sure to don't tell nobody about my sandbox.  Roll Eyes

Maybe we should try to get Andreas Antonopoulos on the Glenn Beck show. These guys need to be better informed on Bitcoin.

And, Travis Skweres of CoinMKT having the same office address as Edison Muckers, thus perpetuating the theme.

Seeing that you guys still don't get, I guess I spell it out a tad.

Quote
Our name is inspired by Thomas Edison’s vision of creating a place where brilliant entrepreneurs and hackers can work together to create new and better products that either disrupted existing industries or created entirely new markets. Mucker Capital is named after the original hackers, the men who worked with Edison in his labs –- Thomas Edison’s “muckers.”

The name for Edison’s muckers is said to have come from Edison’s experiments to invent a better formulation for bricks.  Edison and his team spent more than a year testing different materials and binding agents, or “muck” as it was called at the time, before finally getting it right.  That’s when some first began referring to his researchers as “muckers,” and the name stuck.

Historians have often called the R&D laboratory Edison’s greatest invention. Before Edison came along, inventors typically worked alone and relied more on inspiration than a repeatable process.  Edison changed all that by effectively creating the modern innovation and commercialization laboratory by marrying a proprietary innovation process with a team of brilliant and ambitious young men from all over United States and Europe to work with him. Many muckers eventually moved on to become successful inventors and entrepreneurs themselves after spending time with Edison.

BloomNation: Bitcoin Opens New Market, Transactions Larger

Los Angeles-based flower delivery site BloomNation--which helps connect consumers with local floral designers--has only been offering up payment via Bitcoin for a few months, but it's already finding that Bitcoin sales are 50 percent larger than traditional credit card sales--plus it allows the company to tap into a niche market it normally wouldn't have been able to tap into. The startup, lets consumers order flowers from local florists and designers, instead of generic mass marketers, and is one of the companies out of MuckerLab. BloomNation other backers include Andreessen Horowitz, Spark Capital, Chicago Ventures, and CrunchFund. Despite some ups and downs in the Bitcoin market, there have been a number of Southern California companies looking to tap into the interest in the all-electronic currency, including GoCoin, which is enabling BitCoin payments for e-commerce retailers; Virgin Galactic, which is letting customers buy a ride into space using Bitcoin; and CheapAir.com, which is letting users buy airline tickets using Bitcoin.

Simula Labs – the Open Source Venture Partners, was formed in 2005 to discover and launch open source software (OSS) companies in strategic segments of the enterprise infrastructure and applications software markets.

Based in Southern California, Simula was founded by CEO Winston Damarillo - the founder of Gluecode Software, a leading developer of enterprise class open source application server software and previously, a successful executive at Intel Venture Capital.

Simula’s mission is to identify the most promising companies in the OSS industry and re-define the economics of these start-ups, by improving product lifecycles, decreasing time to market, and improving risk-reward profiles for investors.

Simula has already identified several, large enterprise infrastructure segments that are ready for market entry. New start ups that are currently being built, or evaluated, through the open source venture lab are each currently recognized as “Best in Class” open source projects and span categories such as Enterprise Messaging and Integration, Software Lifecycle Management, Enterprise Identity Management, Collaborative Software Engineering, and Service Oriented Architecture Management.

Winston Damarillo – CEO

Winston Damarillo is Chief Executive Officer, managing partner and co-founder of Simula Labs. A proven serial entrepreneur with a track record of building successful technology start ups, Winston currently serves as Chairman of the board for Gluecode Software, the leading provider of open source java application infrastructure. Winston is also the founder of Exist Software, a global software engineering company. Since its inception in 2001, Exist has maintained profitable operations while growing at over 100 percent annually.

Prior to his roles at Gluecode and Exist, Winston was among the highest performing venture capital professionals at Intel Corporation, helping lead the majority of his investments to either a successful IPO or a profitable corporate acquisition. Winston’s Intel career also included leadership roles in managing strategic software relationships, channel development, product engineering and new business development. He began his career in technology in 1992 with Apex Technologies, a pioneer in electronic medical claims processing solutions.

Winston received his B.S. in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University, in Manila.

Gordon King - Operations

Gordon King is Chief Operations Officer and co-founder of Simula. With over thirty years of management experience as an owner, investor and director, Gordon is an established and successfully-proven business builder. He currently serves as an investor and consultant to Fairway Commercial Credit, a financial services company.

Prior to joining Simula, Gordon was President of American Holding Corporation, a real estate investment and development company. Gordon also previously worked with Gluecode Software, where he was Chief Operations Officer. Before Gluecode, Gordon was President of Educational Systems Corporation, an internationally focused management consulting company with over 250 employees, 12 regional U.S. offices and 5 offices in Europe. In addition, Gordon has served as Chairman of the Board for both Fred Ward Productions, a documentary motion picture company, and Edufax, Inc., a subsidiary of RCA that managed a national network of trade schools.

Gordon received his B.A. in Business and his M.A. in Adult Education from Florida State University.

Alan Cabrera - Engineering

Alan Cabrera is Vice President of Engineering for Simula and is a founding member of Geronimo, the Apache Software Foundation’s J2EE server, Directory, and LDAP/Kerberos/ASN1 compiler project. With experience in multiple executive-level roles across several vertical industries, Alan brings a wealth of software development and technical advisory experience to the company.

Prior to joining Simula, Alan was Vice President of Software Development at Reuters, where he managed in-house and offshore development teams delivering financial data to brokerages and buy-side clients through web services. Prior to that, Alan served as Vice President at Multex.com, an internet startup providing financial research and data, which successfully went public. Alan also led the development of global fixed income and F/X exotics trading systems as an Executive Director at CIBC World Markets, and developed global fixed income trading systems at Sanwa Financial Products.

Alan began his technology career at the Computer Laboratory at Michigan State University, where he was a supercomputer consultant and a staff researcher, researching ASIC VLSI design for the Air Force building VHDL compilers for supercomputers such as the Cray T3D. Alan received his B.S. in Mathematics from Michigan State University.

Natalie Burdick – Product Management

Natalie Burdick is the Vice President of Product Management at Simula, bringing nearly 15 years of enterprise and small business software product management experience to the role. Prior to joining Simula, Natalie was Vice President of Product Management for the CRM division at FrontRange Solutions, where she held strategic ownership for the CRM family’s roadmap before and after GoldMine Software Corporation’s merger and acquisition. Natalie’s responsibilities included leadership of the Product Management, Project Management, Development, and Quality Assurance teams and operations for 5 on time, successful product launches in fewer than 5 years.

Prior to her Vice President role in February 2000, Natalie had 10 years of product management, business-to-business marketing, channel marketing, customer management, and courseware/training development experience with GoldMine. The rare blend of marketing, customer-facing, and technical backgrounds has provided her with unique insight for successfully executing product lifecycle development processes.

Natalie received her B.A. of Economics from the University of California Los Angeles.

Gordon King, and the others aside, lets concentrate on Winston Damarillo, highlighted in OrAnGe above (and fuck you guys who are ahead of me  Grin)

Upon doing some research on the names of the list starting with Winston Damarillo, I discovered/recalled the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Damarillo (with apologies for quoting the entire write-up, but it was brief)

Quote
Winston Damarillo is the Managing Director of Amihan Global Strategies (AGSX), a strategic consultancy firm and the holding company of his investment portfolio. He is a serial entrepreneur and venture capitalist[1][2] with a track record of building successful technology start-ups. He grew several companies to profitability and subsequently sold to major IT companies: Gluecode Software, an open source application infrastructure company which was acquired by IBM in 2005,[3][4] Logicblaze, acquired by Iona Technologies in 2007,[5][6] and Webtide, acquired by Intalio in 2009.[7][8] Winston is also the chairman of the board of directors for Exist, an award-winning leader in enterprise software development, and concurrently, the CEO and co-founder of Acaleph Storage, a unified storage platform company, and Morphlabs, the world's leading provider of converged dynamic infrastructure for cloud computing. Prior to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Winston was among the highest performing venture capital professionals at Intel, having led the majority of his investments to either a successful IPO or a profitable corporate acquisition. He is one of the Young Global Leader honorees for 2010[9][10] and an active participant of the World Economic Forum. Winston is also a country representative of APEC and chairs the PPTSI Innovation Committee. He is a trustee of the Philippine Development Foundation. Winston is also involved in several organizations that are focused on combining the expertise of a broad range of thought leaders with advanced technology to drive global innovation and growth. In 2011, Winston was selected as a Commissioner in the TechAmerica Foundation – State & Local Government Cloud Commission (SLG-CC).[2] Winston holds a B.S. in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering from the De La Salle University.

Amazingly, Winston Damarillo failed to mention his tenure at Simula Labs, in spite of being part of some 401K plan below: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=663990&authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=juJh&locale=en_US&srchid=242722271401662751501&srchindex=2&srchtotal=3&trk=vsrp_people_res_name&trkInfo=VSRPsearchId%3A242722271401662751501%2CVSRPtargetId%3A663990%2CVSRPcmpt%3Aprimary

BTW, Simula Labs Inc. used to part of some 401K plan: http://www.brightscope.com/form-5500/basic-info/81351//82542/Simula-Labs-Inc-401k-Plan/2006/. Just like Bitcoin is now sneaking into similar plans and private fund portfolios.
