I have got to admit that when I first read about Bitcoin in the very beginning, I thought, now I wonder what would happen if I started doing transactions that recorded dirty messages into the block chain...

... or advertisements

I didn't really say anything at the time, but it seems some other people have gotten the same idea.

Once it is discovered that one can leave permanent messages in the blockchain, it is only natural that people will leave all kinds of messages there. It is not rocket science.

A recent article was published on coin desk I read the other day... it was called: New Forms of Spam Could Bloat Bitcoin’s Block Chain

Talks about some new solutions to deal with blockchain spam

If you're bored enough to do that, just know that those messages will not target any specific audience, so nope, you may not talk dirty with your girlfriend over the blockchain, sorry pal  Undecided

No.

you talk about the blockchain.info that it have "comments" on block, transaction or adress.
If you use an other reader : http://btc.blockr.io/address/info/1AqTMY7kmHZxBuLUR5wJjPFUvqGs23sesr

You don't have any commentar available.

---

The Blockchain of bitcoin (physical files of the 6000 nodes of bitcoin-qt) don't allow message text in transaction.

It is not dirty but I put this message in the blockchain forever:

https://blockchain.info/tx/bf40e4a1c2546747bc800a085e7145d921a9f402aaf4040c155ff5d0df9cc999

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

That must have taken a lot of valuable time. Which sucks because nobody else would bother to read it.

You can also put messages in but they are encoded.  The first block has a message in the coinbase field which is the field to send the block reward and here is how you decode it

It was only a matter of time and when one person tried it and it worked then more would have followed in suit and so on meaning now it's a pretty common thing.

CoinSecrets has all of the OP_RETURN pushed data from the blockchain on it. OP_RETURN lets you stick in 40 bytes of whatever you'd like in every transaction.

I did not want to destroy more than 1 Satoshi per line of the poem.

But hardly anyone will read the messages, it seems a bit of waste. The blockchain.info comments are more interesting, but these comments are not part of blockchain actually, just blockchain.info stores these comments

That is not the issue, the issue is that illegal information could be conveyed that way

Top secret stuff, terrorism ... would that turn the entire blockchain illegal?

Truth is the new hatespeech.
