What is the need of revealing email addresses to mod? Is it to report any person who is reporting many useful posts which aren't needed to be deleted? If it is, they just want to reveal the username, right? There are mods now who aren't even reached Sr. Member level(no offence). I am not telling they aren't trustworthy but there is chance for spamming inbox. Smiley

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I agree it shouldn't be needed, but if you're worried about being spammed or whatnot you should use a new email address just used for this forum. Adds an extra layer of security for you as well.

I already have a few email address. In that I only use 2 of them now. So I use one of that email here. If there is something important from the forum, I can see it easily. Using a email which I am not using often would be a bad idea for me. IMO, this option should be removed unless it is important but I couldn't find atleast one reason for this. Sad
@theymos/BadBear : Please remove it or atleast tell us why it is needed. Smiley Thanks!

Moderators get an email (or they can if their settings are set up a certain way) that notifies them of the report and at least one of the email addresses the email is "from" is the email address attached to your account.

Thats still not a reason at all, why cant they just get the email from the admin on the forum with your username attached instead of your email?

There is already another thread about this question:

It's not really an issue, but I'm just curious as to why this is. Is it a feature of SMF that can't be disabled? Or is it there for an actual reason?

I saw it but there is no answer in it for the question.

So what's the problem with that? It doesn't cost anything to create a new email address if you're really concerned about moderators spamming you (but then you probably shouldn't use this forum at all)

It's just how an SMF forum works.

^^^ This. Not really a problem for me. I already told that above.

I think there is a problem for you : the trustwhorty of some mod, or am I wrong? However if you do not want to reveal your personal email address, just use another one only for bitcointalk.org (as someone said previously here in this thread).

Right, but has MZ has stated several times, the question of why is still unanswered.  I think that's why we're waiting for an answer.  If, as hillarious said, the functionality isn't motivated, why not remove it?

Only certain mods can see it - I can't for instance - but I agree that if it doesn't need to be there then it should be removed.

You can't see the mail ids even when a report is made in a board you moderate? I got the impression it was otherwise from the post below

Only the specific board moderator(s) can see your email when you report a post.

Check the date of his post. IIRC he was still a patroller. He became mod on February 13 or 14.

Edited.

As Muhammad said. I randomly only started getting them after the forum went down though. Had to change my email because I was getting spammed by them day and night. Hopefully in the new forum it won't require emails to be shown or I hope we can turn them off at least.

Obviously, I think it is not necessary this function and SMF is not very 'useful'.... maybe the new forum software will be really good (when it will be released or better if it will be released ).
