The best would be to buy the exactly same ram you have now. But for 250$ you can buy brand new 16GB DDR3 memory (in my country) with shipping.
G.SKILL Sniper series, F3-1866C9D-16GSR, DDR3 1866MHz, kit 2x8GB
or somethin like
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z series, F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH, DDR3 2133MHz, kit 4x4GB

You COULD have problem but in most cases you DON'T if you buy RAM with same latency and frequency.. I telling you this from my experience i had RAM from three different manufacturer (Kingston A-DATA and G.SKILL) and they work perfectly on same frequency with same latency but it is NOT recommended to do that because you could have BSOD or so.. |

@OP - just get 2x8 GB , that way you can easily upgrade in the future if you want. Just make sure your mobo supports the freq of the ram.

you have many choices and its up to you, for performance and looks i would recommend corsair memory or kingston hyperx as long as its 1333Mhz or 1066Mhz clockspeed.

$250 for 16GB RAM?! Oh, man... we need to set up an import/export business! On previous conversation -- there's no reason to assume RAM which can run on the same frequencies, timing, and voltage won't be compatible. Even if timings don't match, they'll often still run together. Voltage is pretty iffy, though. It'll run on the lowest frequency shared by both, of course. Since you're buying all new RAM, though, that's kind of irrelevant. ETA: Wow, I guess RAM prices have shot up. I can grab you 4x4GB @ $147.96 from Newegg + $23.50 shipping if you'd like. Would take ~5-15 business days to get to me, ~5-10 business days to get to you from me. (+any customs fees/taxes -- Idunno how that's handled in your neck of the woods) ETA2: Didn't notice you need non-ECC. Updated price & transit time. |

If you look at the images, you can see the clock speed shown in 667 Mhz. Weirdly though, I can find only DDR2 RAMs with 667 Mhz, and I assume it is not backwards compatible ? EDIT: This shows 1333 Mhz, and has he same product code as my current one. http://www.impactcomputers.com/ebj21ue8bdf0-dj-f.htmlI guess you can use something with a higher frequency on a motherboard that supports only 667 ? From mobo page you linked DIMM types: PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066) ETA: It looks like your motherboard downclocked the RAM you have in it (severely). ETA2: My guess on why this happened is because the RAM uses a non-standard frequency which maybe tripped up the BIOS (the RAM's technically incompatible with the MoBo). It "should" be PC3-10600, not PC3-10700. It might be possible to correct that in the BIOS, but I'm guessing you want more memory space, not faster memory, so maybe irrelevant. ETA3: Lol, we both got tripped up. DDR3 does double-data, so 667MHz = ~1334Mhz. It's fine - CPU-Z just reports it differently than RAM manufacturers market. |

16GB of ram is overkill, 8GB is really enough... Maybe. Chrome can down 1-3GB with a handful of pages open (or one with a memory leak). Windows takes up ~200MB. Core uses ~565MB (Armory uses significantly more, I believe). Media editing of any kind can take up a couple or few gigs, and a game you're casually playing might set you over the edge. I'm using 10.8GB right now under what I'd call light use. |

16GB of ram is overkill, 8GB is really enough... I currently have 16 GB, but too much bloatware to delete. I often go on a deleting spree, ending up with lesser programs appearing on startup and a slightly faster time, but eventually it all goes down again. Facebook takes around 0.5 GB on a good day, and 1 GB if I skip a shutdown. Chrome with flash games open takes me 3-4 GB. I have various bloatware which I lose track of, and other useful software that pile up, like Dropbox, Electrum , TWO antiviruses ? (Norton eats my system memory for some reason, even though I uninstalled it, it has some weird button on my taskbar), Allshare, Steam, Hangouts, which take up a lot of space. It is okay, occasionally a bit slow when I load up a second or third game in a flash projector (taking upto 1.5 GB), but I started mainly noticing the problem when I tried playing the newest Thief. It starts off at 1.5 GB or something and slowly increases from there. As far as I can see, 16 GB should fix everything for long enough. |
