Only time can heal wounds . Be careful with the so called "seo specialists", they can mess it up even more. It may take a year to get back to the first page with your preferred keywords. Plus I can give you some advice on how to "remove" those bad backlinks, or better said; that Google knows you disagree with the backlinks

Use google webmaster tools to keep a track, optimize and get details of crawler errors, there are some nice features in google webmaster tools. Once the meta tags are properly defined, sumit site to various search engines.
