Hi everyone,

I'm trying to recover an old Bitcoin wallet from WalletBit.com and hoping someone here remembers the technical details of how their system worked.

**Background:**
- I registered with WalletBit on April 2, 2013 (I have the confirmation email)
- It received two mining payouts from SlushPool in April/May 2013
- The service shut down on July 15, 2013, and the founders moved to BIPS (which later suffered a hack and shut down its wallet service)

**What I'm trying to figure out:**

1. **How did WalletBit generate addresses?** Their API had a `getnewaddress` method that generated addresses on their server. Does anyone know if the private keys were stored server-side only, or was there a client-side component?

2. **What backup formats did they use?** Did WalletBit allow users to export their private keys or download encrypted wallet backups? If so, what was the file format? (e.g., `.json`, `.aes`, `.dat`)

3. **Is there any known way to recover a WalletBit wallet today?** The founders (Adam Harding and Kris Henriksen) seem to be unreachable. BIPS was hacked in late 2013 and the wallet service was shut down [4†L15-L21]. I'm wondering if any user data was ever preserved or if there's a known recovery path.

4. **Does anyone remember if WalletBit used a deterministic (HD) wallet or generated random keys per address?**

**What I have:**
- Registration email (April 2, 2013) with my email address
- The Bitcoin address itself
- Transaction hashes for the two incoming payouts
- A good idea of the password I used

**What I don't have:**
- Any backup file from WalletBit (I'm hoping to figure out what to look for)
- Contact with the founders

If anyone has technical documentation, old forum posts, or personal experience with WalletBit's wallet system, I'd be very grateful for any information. Even small details about how they handled private keys could help.

They closed their service, payment processor since 2013, so the email you used for account registration on Walletbit.com before 2013 is useless now.

Why did you wait till their service closure in 2013 till now to get your bitcoin?

No, they did not provide such backup formats for users because their wallet is custodial.

**What I don't have:**
- Any backup file from WalletBit (I'm hoping to figure out what to look for)

You can not have any wallet backup file because WalletBit provided custodial wallets. They did not provide non custodial wallets for users.

Not sure this thread was posted by their founder or team.

BTC at that time (early 2013) was not worth much, so I didn't pay much attention.

And somehow I missed any call to transfer funds. I remember opening wallets in DGEX (that also went bust) and Blockchain.info, but never transfered any funds.

Sometimes in life you miss the train.

No, they did not provide such backup formats for users because their wallet is custodial.

That ends it all, I guess.
