Has there ever been such a long block time?

Sure.  It happens all the time.

New record?

Not even close.

Block 27: 2009-01-10 06:56:13
Block 28: 2009-01-10 15:30:57

Block 168: 2009-01-11 23:39:41
Block 169: 2009-01-12 03:22:03

"Hey, but that early blocks don't count!!" Worry not, there are more recent ones too:

Block 74637: 2010-08-15 17:02:43
Block 74638: 2010-08-15 23:53:59

Do you know what the record is?

That depends on what sort of limitations you want to put on your question.

Between block 0 (when Satoshi built the source code and included the genesis block) and block 1 (the first mined block) I think it was about 5 days 8 hours 39 minutes 20 seconds.

Since miners are allowed to alter the timestamp in the block by more than an hour, it can be difficult to determine exactly how much time there is between 2 blocks.  Because of this altering of timestamps, if you simply subtract the timestamps to try to find the record, you'll discover that many blocks take a negative amount of time.

A block that seems (by subtracting timestamps) to have taken 2 hours might only have actually taken a few minutes.  A block that seem (by subtracting timestamps) to have taken a few minutes might actually have taken 2 hours.

Block 320331 has been found now.

According to http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1vkp1x/what_is_the_longest_time_between_blocks_in_the/cetdjwc, you can find dozens of hours' of time gap between old blocks.

A more recent example would be block 270193 and 270194 with a difference of 7741 seconds (2 hours and 9 minutes).

Nope: http://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate

- You can figure out what will happen, not when /Warren Buffett
- Pay any Bitcoin address privately with a little help of Monero.
