Hey guys I'm a newbie here, and as you can tell by my name I'm a little slow in discovering this new currency..

Anyway I really want to invest in buying around 2000-2500 bit coins but want to know the safest way in doing so?

I live in Australia

Slowpok3, freenode is an irc network http://freenode.net/. You can download irc client and connect to it. Detailed explanation on how to do it is on that page. If you have any problems or want to know more about it feel free to ask here or pm me. I can walk you through the process

You might be able to use Paxum.  Not sure, though.

For that amount of cash probably a wire transfer to mt gox is the best option. Its getting close to the trigger point for reporting to anti money laundering though. Mostly people are sticking to under $1000 a day per person.

Youll only be able to withdraw $1000 worth a day in btc from mt gox for that reason.

Mt gox has a $50 receiving fee for international wire transfers.

Our receive fee for international wire transfers is 1500¥ (~US$18.57 at this time), not $50~
