both ripple and stellar (a ripple fork) is NOT about its built in currency. having only a small amount of that, like 100 XRP/STR is enough for an average user to last him a life time of transactions in using those platforms.

I got the meaning like that they are invented to be a useful standard for financial transaction which make independent system interconnected with each other. And as the standard grow complete,  kinds of platform can works together.

It certainly has the potential to be huge, if it doesn't rush it and can offer a true multicurrency wallet, wow, great stuff, send X currency, receive and convert to X currency and so on.

It certainly has the major backers in the field.
