Between May 7th - May 11th

This is an email I'm sending to my kid's teachers.

Quote
Dear Teacher,

In anticipation for Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to give you $5 USD in a new digital currency that is poised to change the world, just like the Internet and email did decades ago.

This currency is called Bitcoin and it is made possible by free, open source Window/Mac/Linux/Smartphone software and new advances in cryptography and peer-to-peer networking. In short, it allows any individual to transfer a store of value, in any amount, across the Internet, to any other individual, regardless of their geo/political boundary - for free.

Here is a radio ad played nation wide regarding Bitcoin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pV9ptoCMyc

Here is a more detailed over view of how Bitcoin works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um63OQz3bjo

There is even a music video that illustrates the culture of Bitcoin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYqqS7aTBVQ

I have created an online wallet for you to store your Bitcoins. To claim/use them, visit this URL: https://InstaWallet.org/w/<insert wallet id here>

Caution: There is no username or password associated with this wallet. The security of the money stored here rests solely in your ability to keep this URL a secret. If anyone can see, read, or copy this URL, they can access the wallet just as easily as you and spend your Bitcoins.

Take some time to read up on Bitcoin at http://BitcoinWeekly.info and when next week comes around, if you choose to exchange your Bitcoins for the same value in US dollars, <insert kid's name here> will be MORE than happy to accept these Bitcoins and fair value in dollars.

P.S. My kid wants Bitcoins for their allowance, that's how much they love it.

Somehow, I think the following might get noticed a little more.  Wink

Dear Teacher,

In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, I am giving you a gift certificate that can be used to buy the illegal drug of your choice.  You can use it today to order a couple Oxycontins without a prescription, or a yummy marijuana brownie sent discreetly to your doorstep courtesy of the US Postal Service.

No, I am not giving you a five dollar bill, although that would certainly qualify as such a gift certificate.  Rather, I am giving you a Bitcoin.  You can redeem it at the following URL (URL goes here), and then buy the drug of your choice at this URL (here) once you download the TOR software to keep your identity anonymous.

Now that I have your attention, I want to point out I'm not really suggesting you go buy drugs (which would be shocking, I know), but I am giving you a gift of Bitcoin money, which you can spend or trade online for plain old dollars.  I mention the drug market only to point out the writing on the wall - that Bitcoin works - and for better or worse, that's what brought Bitcoin to fame, just like porn was responsible for the success of the VHS videocassette.

Bitcoin is not a company, it is an invention that appeared in early 2009 that nobody knows who invented, that allows banking without banks.  Bitcoin has a lot of advantages over cash.  Even if you decide you have no use for it, it's worth knowing about, because sooner or later, you'll be facing classrooms full of kids who know about it.

What I am really looking to share is awareness of how Bitcoin works, for better or for worse, but mostly for better.  The bitcoin I am giving you is worth real money because it is real money.  Please take a few minutes to visit weusecoins.org to find out more.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

lol...

I'm not comfortable with in increased attention from family services I might receive mentioning an underground currency, porn, and drugs in the same document to a mandatory reporter.

Get noticed, yes. Get you into awkward conversations, also yes. Starting a conversation with an employee of the government by offering them drugs is not terribly prudent.

+1. This message would be far more eye-catching and suitable for younger rebels(teenagers?), but certainly inappropriate for a teacher/government servant/law-abiding person.

And TBH we probably don't want people only interested in drugs joining anyway.

Interested in drugs doesn't mean they do buy drugs, don't forget.  Wink Sometimes the thought of possibly rebelling against the law (by having Bitcoins that couldn't be tracked and could be traded for drugs one day, personal stash of money that no one would ever know etc etc) will stir the interest in a teenager's heart. However telling that to a mature, older person who is law-abiding and doesn't want any brushes with the law would possibly make them forgo all contact with Bitcoin.

Tuxavant is a bitcoin machine!  Can you just be awarded the Satoshi Superstar already to get that award over with!?  Grin

Fair point, but I think that would be the exception rather than the rule. And the last thing we want to do is create more illegal drug-related PR for Bitcoin; it's had far too much already.

And this +1! Tuxevant is a  credit to the community!

+2, I concur absolutely.

Forgive me for being indiscreet but I don't think a ty note with an invitation to purchase illegal drugs is the jump start the bitcoin needs.

Let's at least start with stolen merchandise people! Lol

No seriously if you are looking for the long term stability of your baby you need to be thinking and acting in terms of legal guidance. Those judifications are far from an idle threat and were placed for your protection and performance.

What on Earth are you talking about? "Stability of your baby"? "Legal guidance"? "Protection and performance"?

LOL.. I completely agree with this at least for my situation... My kid is barely getting out of 4th grade so petty theft is a good starter crime they can work with and understand.

Thank you guys.... I am completely honored by your support. I can only say my ideas were inspired by far more intelligent and creative people than me... I just happened to have been lucky enough to hear their ideas and combine a few together to make something new. I hope I can inspire anyone else to do the same, have the fire of Bitcoin burn in your soul, and come up with something really awesome too that ensures Bitcoin's world success.

I was waiting for some wallets to confirm and experimenting with the easywallet email feature when a server blew up at work so I didn't actually get a chance to send the email yet. I'll send it tonight but I dont expect to hear anything about it until next week during the event.
