The only way to diversify away from Bitcoin is fiat

Nope. You can go from Bitcoin -> Precious metals, in minutes, directly on the blockchain

Easy. I've escaped Bitcoin swings, without ever touching fiat.
Zero-Fee P2P Gold Trading markets are now live. You have the choice to receive physical possession of assets, soon collection via dealers across the globe will be a reality, this is inevitable.

No need to try gambling your funds in a BTC denominated alt on a +% trend

Ive been in crypto for 2 years.  I would bet on coins that have had staying power and either a good dev or good community.  Check to see what coins are selling on ebay.

Dogecoin,Quarkcoin,Feathercoin,Blackcoin,Darkcoin,Peercoin,Natuliscoin, worldcoin, digibyte, litecoin, ultracoin, reddcoin, noblecoin, fedoracoin, primecoin, mintcoin are all great in my opinion

As for the new coins, i rather wait until they are more established...Too many scams, pump and dumps etc.

I'm not going to give any "picks" for altcoins since, as previously mentioned, they are all pretty much dependent on bitcoin.

However, I will recommend picking a coin that you think will be able to maintain a stable rate in the medium term (i.e. 3-6 months). When bitcoin price kicks up again, shift over and rebalance your holdings.

Ok so we are seeing a big decline in the Bitcoin Price. So I was wondering which Altcoins would you guys buy - the Altcoin price has also been going down.

I am thinking about buying Litecoin, Dogecoin and Darkcoin - maybe Bitcoindark or BisharesX?
What do you guys think?

Just go slow, read research and learn. But generally, when BTC goes down all alts goes also. There are 9999 accounts made here, that will try to look their coin looks perfect and all others looks scam.
Just go slow!

i really can't figure out why people never talk about NXT instead of shitcoin like doge and litecoin...  Huh

NXT was great for the NXT devs. Smiley

Guldencoin is trying hard as a alt. Will see where that ends up in 2 years from now.

Guldencoin is going to be accepted in coffeshops in Holland!!!

The link title really sucks for that. It totally should be "Instant Transactions now possible for a bitcoin based network."

The NXT devs did have to put bitcoin in at the start though to launch the coin. People are mad because they have a load of NXT, but they took a massive risk putting in BTC so they deserve to be rewarded.

i consider both XCurrency and Dark good buys atm. i only hold the first cause i like their platform more but i think they will both perform really good in the coming weeks from a trading point of few. both have more than just the anonymity to offer and differ in those features.

All i got to say on this is that id rather stick with btc or ltc anything els is just a quick pump and dump and they may are may not have a real value in the feature. There is ushally a rule in the financial world and it can be seen very easy in history, jpmorgan, perse and Rockefeller  all are examples. Who ever were their first rules all unless your that fucking smart to bluff your way and win. And in this case its btc and ltc. Its the reason paypal in the #1 payment processor online because no won can really match them its the same for ltc and btc.

So unless one of those coins is pushed hard enough and offered real money to cash them out on an exchange then they won't be breaking past btc since that is their based value.

XC comes to mind.... It seems to be very stable and has been for quite some time.

Remember when ltc went down to a dollar? 1000 of those would have brought in $40,000 when it hit it's high back then. I'm gonna suggest LTC & DMD for now.

pre-mine doesn't always mean scam, although there are loads if dodgy basteds out there.

and if btc goes to 100,000 then all the alts will benefit for a little while...if only we could see round that corner :0)

Diversify some, not all your btc into some newer 2.0 technologies.  Perhaps 50% BTC, 25% BitShares and 25% Nxt come to mind first having a strong dev team and good community support.  There is a reason why they rank high on Coinmarketcap and all it takes is some due diligence to see this.

BitShares can be very difficult to get your head around as Bitcoin once was due to lack of good marketing documentation.  Here are some links to help people along:

ELI5 threads (Explain like I'm 5)
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8027.0

Start here to read the background on DPOS algorithm:
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/DPOS

Continue here to read about the security and simplicity of sending to names instead of addresses:
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/TITAN

Listen to this episode from a few weeks back:
Let's talk Bitcoin! episode 129.  Starts around 12 minute mark with the lead dev Dan.  Great listen.
http://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/lets-talk-bitcoin-129-dogeparty-and-delegated-proof-of-stake

Which leads to the asset exchange:
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Bitshares_X

BitUSD market peg has been working
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8358.0

Finally finish up with this to really get you thinking about where bitcoin ideology will go:

With all the above were just scratching the surface of possibilities.

Bitcoin will be back up soon enough. It's only down because of the Alibaba IPO on Wall Street. There is major hype regarding this IPO and judging from btcchina.com's volume it seems that people are dumping their BTC to purchase BABA IPO. This, like any other news, will die down and balance will be restored Cheesy
