You're safer trading with Yankee directly than through an escrow. He sold a few 25 BTC Casascius coins a couple weeks ago. Escrows are overrated when dealing with anybody trustworthy, because if a trustworthy person wants to scam you, he can just scam you through escrow (e.g. "He mailed a bricked iPhone 4, not an iPhone 6." "Okay Charlie, screw that scammer, I sent you your BTC back.") anyway.
Especially in his current situation, he's sure as hell not going to steal someone's $1,100 iPhone. I'd bet $1,100 at 500 to 1 odds that he deals with you fairly. Just lock in the deal and ship it, he's more trustworthy than most of the escrows here.
