I'll go with "one of".
I mean, I think the "web" as a whole, as a publishing mechanism, is probably more important.
And other more incremental innovations such as increases in CPU power, miniaturisation of tech are changing society dramatically.

Most definitely. We live in exciting times, near an era of post-scarcity and abundance, with Virtual Reality booming with the Oculus Rift and stuff. I can't think of a more exciting time to be living on, actually.

{ Imagine a sequence of bits generated from the first decimal place of the square roots of whole integers that are irrational numbers. If the decimal falls between 0 and 5, it's considered bit 0, and if it falls between 5 and 10, it's considered bit 1. This sequence from a simple integer count of contiguous irrationals and their logical decimal expansion of the first decimal place is called the 'main irrational stream.' Our goal is to design a physical and optical computing system system that can detect when this stream starts matching a specific pattern of a given size of bits. bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=166760.0 } Satoshi did use a friend class in C++ and put a comment on the code saying: "This is why people hate C++".

Bitcoin is a scam designed to line the pockets of scammers and criminals.
Since it's the newest and most innovative financial and record keeping tool of our time, it does err on the side of the first ones on the block. The bad elements have to be shaken out of any free market in its infancy and people need to be very careful w/ their funds.

I voted that there are more important developments, but I also think that it will likely change the way money is spent and transferred.
The more important developments would include things like social media that allows people to communicate easily and to share content quickly. One example of how social media has helped society is how it can help keep police officers accountable. When there is a police beating that is caught on camera, someone can simply post the video on facebook and allow it to be shared. The public could be aware of this within hours instead of days (when someone would have to give the video to a news outlet, have them verify it's authenticity and only possibly air it some time later)

The fact that something that is digital that can't be duplicated or copied without leaving another copy is amazing enough. Maybe bitcoin can lead to the discovery of teleportation, who knows

I think Bitcoin is certainly nice, but it is the technology itself not Bitcoin that is going to make the difference, already I'm seeing much more interesting ( Sorry Bitcoin devs ) projects coming out like Open Bazaar and Storj, but admittedly if Bitcoin hadn't come along these projects wouldn't have been possible or at least quite difficult to implement without the knowledge that was already given out freely.

Dont be silly, for a Hero member to say that, i would have slapped your face. Money is the most important application of the blockchain technology, PERIOD. You dont even know how disrupting this is. And you're preferring some open marketplace and distributed storage services to MONEY? ARE YOU CRAZY?

somebody would have come out with something similar to Bitcoin anyway albeit slightly different in the back end function, we've already had lots of attempts like e-gold etc. etc. to try and create decentralised payment systems but it's the proof of work technology and the Peer to Peer nature of Bitcoin that makes it special, anybody who actually knows about the Bitcoin back end will tell you that.
The fact you need to resort to violence in order to get your point across just shows you up for being an ignorant cunt really, I can see why some people here are called Bitcoin evangelicals.

Well it's the "Internet of money" like Andreas says. Most people concentrate on the negative side, like MtGox / Price volitility / Scams / Hacks and ignore the positive side of things, like : 1. Individuals control their own money. 2. No exorbant banking fees 3. Quick transaction verification {No reversal} 4. Makes micro transactions VERY easy, with virtually no fees 5. Global transfers of any amount {You choose your fee} 6. No central organization manipulating the currency 7. Deflasionary 8. Public / transparent ledger 9. Degree of Anonymity What did I leave out? Only that it's the best invention since sliced bread. There are so many positive features, that would make such a big difference, and we cry over silly things.

Yes like apple pay Not exactly! Actually Apple pay is integrating the old technology together, like NFC and secure element, and add its new technology touchid finger reader in new generation IPhone. But it do apply the concept of anonymity of bitcoin.
