I was thinking about investing time/money into a ALT coin instead of BTC
The feathercoin community really caught my eye.. Is there anything I should know before I jump in?

Yes: Be very, very careful taking economic advice here. There's a lot of hyping and pumping.

On FTC, I know that they have a pretty active development community. Whether that affects its market value is anyone's guess.

Well considering the community holders are the ones who determine the value, chances look good

I'd go with zetacoin to be honest.

Their community is far greater.

If you haven't already join the Feathercoin forum
https://forum.feathercoin.com/

Ask some questions and see if you like the answers.

Feathercoin will be soon (hopefully by the end of October) be changing over to Neoscrypt which will make it ASIC resistant.
The devs are just ironing out the bugs on the GPU miner, they are actively doing this now, I'm reading their progress on Skype as I type as this message.

I have shifted most of my altcoin 'wealth' to FTC, but then I'm part of the FTC team, but you need to make your mind up for yourself if you want to invest, so I do recommend joining the Feathercoin forum and asking questions.

I truly recommend an investment in some 2.0 alts.
Try to step in the NEM-community.
They are really gentil and really passionate.

First, invest plenty of your own time researching anything you are considering investing into.

Feathercoin has a great Dev team & community, I recommend the coin for that reason.

One of Feathercoins devs, <bushstar> was also lead technical dev for AppleByte, so I recommend it as well.
