Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Very interesting news... but what does this mean in terms of Braintree's development?  Is this in parallel to that payment method?

Certainly looks like Paypal is venturing (cautiously) into the deep Bitcoin waters... certainly could open it up to much more mainstream adoption.

its confusing but Braintree is paypals payment section or something like that. we will see a slow adoption here.

I seriously hope bitcoin would not start to suck because of paypal. There are so many merchants who were burned by paypal over the years, that this news makes many people weary.

Apple nudges PayPal deeper into bitcoin

While it’s unclear whether bitcoin will play a part in Apple Pay, Apple did lift its ban on bitcoin apps earlier this year, and it will eventually open up Apple Pay to developers, potentially enabling third-party interaction between bitcoin and Apple Pay.

“I think PayPal recognizes they are at risk on a number of fronts and is becoming far more aggressive about meeting a wider variety of customer needs as a result than they otherwise would be,” said Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group.

Despite of what many big companies hoped in the past few years, bitcoin did not die. So the likes of PayPal have to think how to get a piece of the action or at least to try to be close to it.

Indeed they do, for now. The main reason that Paypal has had such massive fees and restrictions is due to the fact that they've always been bound, completely, by the current financial institutions. Their fees have to be extremely high because their service has to pay a metric-ton of money to the banks and credit agencies. Basically, you get nickel and dimed to hell because Paypal gets nickel and dimed to hell by the vampire squids in NYC. Once the banks and creditors start to lose their grip on world finance, Paypal will finally have the choice to offer the customer an extremely cheap way of buying/selling things online.

This has been a coming for a long time, and perhaps Paypal will choose to act exactly like the agencies it is replacing and charge huge fees regardless of the massive savings it will get using bitcoin. Only time will tell, but I've got my fingers crossed.
