Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

The price of bitcoin went up ~$45 in the hours after this was announced so I would say this is good news for bitcoin.

The exact details of how this will work is still murky so I am not sure if users will be able to exchange their bitcoin for PP funds (or exactly how the two will merge)

EDIT: I do believe the devil will be in the details for PP accepting bitcoin

I see the increase. I'm debating if I should buy now or not!

i'd say it's good news, but not all good news has an immediately positive effect on the price.

Looks like the same news as anyone else who is "now accepting bitcoin." Instant BTC sales, with very few people buying back.

Short term rise of $45 cant compete with the downward pressure of the actuality of what the event means. Great for bitcoin, don't get me wrong, not great for the price though. Too bad most people feel like the price validates bitcoin, which it doesn't.

I've been wondering how would such news impact on the price for years. We'll see, we've had good news lately and the price keeps stagnating. Will there be an actual "pay with BTC" button in ebay? if so, when.
