Hi,
I am a 30 year old student from germany and need the help and knowledge of you bitcoin experts.
As some people are using setups with multiple GPUs in combination with riser cards and extra PSUs I would like to get some help and general information about that.
My project is NOT going to be used for Bitcoin or mining in general. I hope this kind of topics are "ok"?!
The project:
- MacBook Pro Retina with Thunderbolt and Windows 8.1 installation
- external PCIe enclosure connected via TB with a 25W PSU. So the enclosure will provide less than 25W to the PCIe slot!
- regular desktop GPU: MSI GTX 970 with 6pin & 8pin power connectors
- 500W Corsair ATX PSU with a "swex"
- PCIe riser cable with molex power cable. I bought this one:

Similar setups with GTX 780Ti or even Titan GPUs have been proven to work as a (so called) eGPU setup in OSX and Windows 8.1.
But there are some GPUs that don't work.
So I would like to know if you could explain me where I could expect "problems" and help me understand.
I know that the PCIe slot should provide 75W, but the enclosure is limited to 25W. The riser should help, right?
As this setup will use two different PSUs, is it necessary to cut some lines of the riser to prevent damaging the circuit board of the enclosure?
Thanks in advance!
