If the official site is not working, Id just wait. The chance for malware is to (damn) high with other sources.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Hello Everybody,

I unfortunately borked the multibit.org server last Thursday with a failed upgrade for the shellshock bug.
I've been travelling so have only just sat down to move the site to a new machine.

We have another dedicated machine that we run our consultancy site (bitcoin-solutions.co.uk) on so I am moving the site over to that one.

Sorry for the interruptions in the downloads.

Your copy of MultiBit will still work (as it is decentralised) except you won't see the help as that comes from our multibit.org server.

Thanks for the update, Jim.  Have you considered running a backup or mirror server on a VPS or other hardware -- maybe located somewhere else in the world for even more network safety?  Even now, Multibit is superb software, used all over the world; and it will only see more proliferation with the new HD version.  I would guess a single server would be very stressed, especially in the HD roll-out period, when everyone is trying to download it all at once.

Hi allgoodthings1

The main server is back up now.

Yes Gary and I have discussed having a mirror - we ordered another dedicated server mainly for this purpose but didn't set it up (no excuses for this - I just have not ever got round to it).

I'll probably reinstall the original dedi we were using and then set it up as a mirror in the next few weeks.
This will give us fallover but admittedly the two servers are at the same site.

They both have 100 Mb/s links so should be able to cope with about 100K downloads a day of MultiBit HD. If we get to that level we'll just make some more virtuals to serve the downloads.

The servers we've been using have been very reliable - the problem was that the 'yum update' for the shellshock bug didn't work properly and we lost ssh to the box. The exact same command ran perfectly on the sister server we have so go figure.

Thanks for your feedback - I was hoping to get the server back up more quickly but you know how these things go sometimes.
