There is no such thing, USD is virtual and everyone uses it. Why would the US care about Crypto? It's totally irrelevant.

It is more like Canada is trying to sell the failed Mintchip experiment to the private sector. http://blogs.wsj.com/canadarealtime/2014/04/04/canada-puts-halt-to-mintchip-plans-could-sell-digital-currency-program/.

Edit: One of the reasons: Bitcoin. It is called cutting your losses and it is the smart thing for the Government of Canada to do in this case.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

+1
It would be weird that US Gov would create a coin because,1) they are against cryptos and launching a crypto currency is in conflict with the policy of supporting fiat, and, 2) this coin won't be poplar cause no one would agree to support the gov, the institute that always try to control everything
