Just wanted to start a thread on Catalyst 11.5. I haven't updated yet but discussions are welcome.

I tried updating to it and I couldn't mine. But I also can't mine with any of the 11 drivers either so :/.
edit: I still use the 10 drivers.

I updated and seem to be getting the same hashrate. Assuming I was reading info in the installer right, there was no update to the OpenCL drivers from 11.4 to 11.5.

We are shipping all our Rigs with Ubuntu 10.10, Catalyst 11.5, and SDK 2.4. 11.5 is rock solid, and actually supports some new cards that older drivers didn't.

If you have a working system with an older driver, I don't see any reason to upgrade. There don't appear to be any performance improvements for mining. But if you're building a new box, go with 11.5.

It still doesn't fix the mining + movies hangup with 69xx cards. It's getting annoying.

Disable DXVA hardware acceleration Tongue you cant use DXVA anyway, UVD does in fact underclock your card, thats why it hangs.

A friend of mine running a single 6990 reported a slight gain.  I think it was like +15 MH/s or something.  Nothing to write home about, but it was something.

I have a windows desktop/rig with 2x unlocked 6950 Crossfire. 11.5 slows down mining from 720Mh/s to 710Mh/s. But I'm using it for gaming too. So I have reason to stay with 11.5

It's not hardware acceleration itself, but certain card features being polled that cause the hangup. Apps like GPU-Z certainly don't use DXVA yet still hang the card up, while watching Youtube with hardware acc enabled will cause no problems (but videos using html5 <video> will also it up).

installed 11.5 on a dual 5870 miner with Debian testing and SDK 2.1.

running DiabloMiner, the only oddity i noticed was that my Mhash/sec started out comparatively high (820+), and then settled down to a lower figure.

i've tried a lot of other combinations of CC + SDK (always on Debian), and the Mhash/sec has always started low and gone up to a higher, stable number.

kinda weird, but it works fine.

and the new version of DiabloMiner with BFI_INT is absolutely killer.  i need more fans... Grin
