I would only use escrow with irreversible payments or a credit card as an alternative.

Any good deals for me now? Group buy or otherwise?

Important point: I want to mine whichever altcoin I choose.

I would buy this, for example, if seller cares to respond: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=475580.msg8988335#msg8988335

Edit: I am interested in both Scrypt and ASIC miners; respectively.

So: as no answers came to this very simple but crucial question, I have to conclude the following:

No mining hardware actually exists in real life, all those photos of mining rigs on the Internet are just products of Photoshop.

I mean if there is no safe way to buy them, as with a credit card or with escrow, I guess they don't exist, really.

Here's a profitable business idea:

1) Set up a web site, saying you intend to sell mining hardware.
2) Make photos/Photoshop images resembling mining hardware
3) Collect bitcoins
4) Huh
5) Profit!

These are all safe group buys to buy from.  All trusted sellers:

Canaryinthemine:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=795609.0

CrazyGuy:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=795477.0

waldohoover:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=653256.0

They only deal in BTC, so just buy Bitcoins from Coinbase or Circle beforehand, then buy off either their groupbuy or their associated websites.

Don't forget me.  I'm always willing to help by providing escrow for forum trades and have some great feedback on my services:

That is great, @OgNasty; the question is: how do I convince the seller to use escrow; if I am just a single ManicMiner?

Your best option is to send them a personal message. Most resellers that have established themselves e.g. canaryinthemine and Crazyguy won't offer escrow because they are already running on thin margins and the hassle is increased. It is almost always possible to find another buyer who is willing to make a direct payment and most resellers will go with that option.

In my view if you require escrow look for someone in the hardware selling section who is trying to sell their on hand devices and ask them if they will accept escrow if they do escrow with tomatocage, ognasty or bitpop.

Message me if you have any problems

Very similar to the original question but where to look for a trusted source for Scrypt miners?

And now I am in the market of new, ASIC miners. I haven't looked into this market for more than 6 months. How to catch up with reliable sources of miners shipping to Europe?

Well the 3 current gen are Bitmain S5, SP20, and Avalon 4.1 as far as I consider current gen "home" miners.

Most likely because of price you will go twords S5.  I would suggest ordering from Bitmain.  But there are also that sell in hardware forum aswell.

I don't think there is a good Europe miner site.   They all seem to charge a good amount more then ordering direct.

I've been buying S3's from ebay, making sure that the underclocking firmware has been installed.

The page I look for is this:

$80 + shipping & in some cases free shipping  Cool

Well you could order on forum in hardware area or ebay.  But if your order direct from bitmain you get a 90 day warrenty. With Europe miners shipped from there do normally have a vat.   Secondary sellers are normally less on vat.

Unacceptable is right if very low electricity a S3 can roi quick from ebay.  But with Europe I'm guessing electricity is not cheap.

Personally if it was me I would look at Bitmain's website and order there.  Just go slow start of with one or two and build up slowly.  And be aware on vat as i'm not sure your cost on that.

Unacceptable, I am totally puzzled by your (old) screenshot back when bitcoin price was $1100+, and the URL you show looks like some local proxy...

notlist3d, thanks; you may be right about the notion of buy new from Bitmain, as I haven't seen any decent offers on Ebay for now.

Sadly it is true on new S5's the secondary market is not to much less then a new S5 from bitmain and comes with 90 warrenty.  Which is good and bad.  Bad for buying trying to get a deal, but good as a seller they ran them for a while and get almost what they spent is pretty good way to ROI.

Ebay for now is a great place for S3's and older I would say.   Current gen Bitmain, SP, Avalon all are holding price decent.

Best of luck getting one!
