The Foundation formed some group to look at this stuff

https://bitcoinfoundation.org/press-releases/press-release-october-7-2014-bitcoin-foundation-financial-standards-working-group-leads-the-way-for-mainstream-bitcoin-adoption-2/

They say they will "deploy a consensus based process for reaching an agreement for the official currency symbol" ... whatever that means

hmmm goldmungo, i see your subtle plan

you use a crap ugly font for the double strikethrough to make it look bland(not times new roman or neo).. and then use nice font(neo) for the single strike through..

and i see btcbug asked for a hybrid, so i mocked one up using the nicer font

but i got to agree does look too mastercardy.. well the old debitcard cirrus (owned by mastercard)

Thanks. The mockup doesn't look quite right, but it might be going in the right direction at least.

My problem with the original logo is that Helvetica font as well. I think it's dated looking. If it could be a more modern font (in a similar style of those new designs), but keeping the double strikethrough.

I doubt, adoption of a new symbol will take hold at this point. Regardless, it looks nice.

We had a similar thread some time ago. I had pledged 10 of the 44 bitcoins for the bounty...

Hardforks aren't that hard. It’s getting others to use them that's hard.

Im hoping the foundation will make the B a bit sleeker, imo it looks too 'clunky' or too much like an old template font letter at the moment, rather than something that was designed.

Something along the lines of

With those last two proposals, I don't know if you're being serious or not.

An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

The last boobie one no (even though it might get some more attention lol), but the 'shutterstock' B yes:) Just in terms of it being more slick and modern in its style, not suggesting to use the exact same logo but the current orange-back BTC is too typical 'font' looking imho - like the designer just grabbed some default one from MS Word. Where as these ones I found around the net obviously have had a professional work on them.

Maybe I just have terrible taste haha
