What's the difference between hoarding Bitcoin in a trezor vs hoarding Bitcoin in say, an USB stick and a backup in a harddrive and whatnot? Is it waterprooft?

trezor is usable in non secure enviroments, yes,it is waterproof, and also has passed many others tests

If you're completely clueless about how to safely manage your btc (like the general population of Joe's), then Trezor is for you. Even if an expert on computer security, trezor is still pretty mobile compared to all the other secure ways of storing/sending transactions.

Only for newbies? I use a Trezor. It is very secure and it is the most convenient way to store keys at a high level of security. A paper wallet is cheaper but it is no more secure and it is much less convenient.
