Possible to have two algorithms?

I been looking at multiple coins doing multiple mining algorithms we have a coin that is a scrypt coin but i want to add another algo onto it how possible would that be? and would it hurt what was already mined so far?

It depends what you mean by multiple algorithms. You intend to change the proof of work algorithm by adding another algorithm on top of scypt?

Im looking for the same pow but with sha 256 scrypt and x11 to give an example. but then how would that effect the coin block explorer or would i have to have sha256 explorer i basically have questions like that because the goal here is to used just one coin I wanted to make coins for different algo's but thought it would be a challenge to do it this way.

maybe a fork is not too far fetched then. The issue is finding the developer to assist.

It would most likely never be possible, but imagine a multi algo coin that used...

SHA 256- Support network via ASIC
Scrypt - Support network via ASIC
X11 - Support network via FPGA and GPU
BLAKE 256 - Support network via FPGA and GPU
Cryptonote - Support network via CPU / GPU
Momentum - Support network via CPU / GPU

It would be perfectly balanced from a mining perspective. You may say im a dreamer, but im not the only one

I believe neoscoin does Sha, Blake, and X11. might want to ask them about it. their block explorer in wallet shows like any other, and they can also point out which algo mined which coins.

as an aside, obviously myriadcoin (5 algos?), and huntercoin (sha&scrypt) are multi algo. I'm not sure who else.

Myriad did this and Jackpotcoin did this too !

yep MYR was the first to have many algos i think it had like 5 or so.
its nothing unusual this days

I would need the developers to do talk to too see how this work our way of thinking is SHA 256, Scrypt, X11, Keccak, Quark but then again other then scrypt since it is scrypt we are open too other ideas.

In general you should have an algo for each different "audience".

Albeit I fully support MYR, I hope they are considering new algos. Nonetheless, pure cryptography-derived algos lack the degree of flexibility required to be GPU resistant. They will be GPU ported sooner or later and when that happens... it'll be end of CPU party.

my current developer can merge multi algos im going to try x11 next and see how it goes coin we are working with is gytecoin.

Sure, but not without difficulty and a really good reason. The coin can hard fork at some height in the future giving everyone time to update their wallets, and the new wallet and miners will have to use the old algorithm until the fork point at which time the miners would have to switch algorithms. If the old algorithm is regular and the new one is custom then external mining software and pools will break. Anyone mining using solely the wallet would be fine. Not a perfect scenario by any means but within the realm of possibilities.
