I don't think they are really larger. Is the 120mm such a tight fit it barely fit itself?

It's pretty tight, unfortunately I sold all my S4's so I cant just measure it for you but eyeballing it I think its to small to fit a 140mm. If you pick them up from amazon you can just return them if they dont fit  Wink

http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Cooler-Computer-Cooling-FHP-141/dp/B00A460TK6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440198421&sr=8-1&keywords=Silverstone+FHP-141&pebp=1440198421762&perid=14NKYMKYKDB1RKMQFRK9

I did this testing multiple fans for S5's and let me tell you, it is VERY difficult to find alternative solutions to cool these guys. I would agree with notlist3d that any of Bitmains replacement suggestions will work just fine but you dont have much to gain by swapping out stock fans.

Well the S4 doesn't seem to have the S5's fan control option? I'm able to cool the S5 just fine by feeding it cool air and the S4 with stock fan but at lower RPM would probably more bearable.

So that really leaves changing the Fans or downvolting the stock fans =/

It's pretty hard looking at that list to figure out how much dB you would get if you used those fan.

When testing fans for the S5 the fan that came closest to stock cooling temps while still reducing noise is the:

Scythe DFS123812H-3000

I'm optimistic that it would provide enough airflow for the S4 as well assuming your ambient temps aren't ridiculous.
The S4 fans spool 4200RPM (max) and this one tops out about 3000RPM so its a very noticeable difference in sound.

I see, weird. The Scythe has only 133 CFM vs the Silverstone's 171CFM. You have compared them to one another and the Scythe is somehow more effective?

Hello, is replacing the fans in this units with 4x Silverstone FHP-141 possible and a benefit to cooling/dB ratio?

I would be willing to bet that those fans (140mm with 120mm mounts) are too big and will not fit in the S4. with max RPMs being 2000 I also dont think they will move enough air to cool them appropriately.

I don't think they are really larger. Is the 120mm such a tight fit it barely fit itself?
Yes.

The RPM is slower then you should use.  It would not be recommended.  It is just too slow.

Look here for better choices: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204199879-Antminer-S4-fan-specification-and-possible-replacement-fans

Are you certain? It has the same CFM as the stock fans. The only portion i'm not sure is the impact of its static pressure value.
[/quote]
Its not just about CFM, its about CFM at a given static pressure which on the stock fans is infinitely higher. The best you can do for noise is to replace the front 2 fans with Corsair SP120s but even that won't do much.

Yeah i'm saying i'm not sure about its static pressure impact since i can't find the Ultra Kaze's static pressure spec. Its not even on frozencpu. The silverstone has More static pressure than the sp120 and thrice the CFM. But still around 1 third of stocks.

Basically i don't need it super quiet. 45-60dB depending ambient temp would be great.

Static pressure for Scythe fan:
http://www.scythe-eu.com/uploads/pics/Scythe-Static-Pressure-Comparison_01.jpg

I know the SP120 did NOT move enough air to cool an S5 but that miner is not enclosed like the S4. My recommendation of the Scythe is purely from my tests on an S5 and from having owned a few S4's.

I see. Thanks for the image. If that is accurate, it would explain the huge difference in cooling performance. It would see a bit expensive to lose 10dB, but if the cooling performance is also better, then maybe it will not run at full speed either.

Hmm. I guess i will need to obtain a sample to toy around. I do also need to think of my S5 as well.

I have used Delta's and Sanyo.   But they are really the tried and true fans that work.   No they are not quiet but they move air.

That's nice but they have to do it quieter than stocks fans otherwise i can just leave them running or run the stock fan at lower speed. Hmm. It's hard to calculate cooling/dB ratio. Several users told me the fan that did the best cooling vs noise for them was the Kaze, where it was loud but not a high pitch.

Guess i'll have to try stuff myself.

I have a unit on hand now. What is the latest firmware that allow voltage control? I'd want to try that on Kanopool. See if i can get good hashrate and good efficiency.

I have a unit on hand now. What is the latest firmware that allow voltage control? I'd want to try that on Kanopool. See if i can get good hashrate and good efficiency.

I don't know the exact one but I believe I had factory default on all of my S4's and had it.  It is the early one's that had it.  They took it out on later firmwares.

I recently got rid of my S4's so can't tell like I would have been able to do.

See here for the port labellings on the controller board. Its better to trace the data cables from there then us give you the "should be this one" and it be wrong if they've reversed some cables.

Ok I will wait then. I've also got this question. I'd like to use this miner part of the time. Does anyone know if it's safe to turn on and off the miner using the small button on the back next to the power supply? (By holding down the button for 3sec). I don't want to slowly wreck this machine but there's also no way that I can sleep with it on.

Thanks!

I can't find an answer to this question.  I am also trying to figure out how to safely turn off my new S4.  Can someone help me?  Thanks!

Thank you.  So I just press it for 3 seconds?  Or should I just press it normally like I would to turn it on?

Yes just hold it a few seconds.  It is not a instant button.  So on or off a few seconds.

Let us know but that should do the trick.
