I am a young millennial and my parents graduated from university in the late 1960s (they had me late / I was the youngest in a big family).

According to my parents, a degree back then didn't result in any job unless you knew someone in the government. Both my parents, after completing their Bachelor's Degree, had to pursue professional designation programs.

Myself I have a degree but I never entertained any illusion that it was going to get me a job at some Hedge Fund or throw me on top of the waiting list for a job in some government agency or service.

I have a Bachelor's Degree but my only options with that were to attain a Masters / PhD and then slave away as an adjunct professor for over a decade, or attend technical school, or attend some professional designation program.

I went with the technical school and now I am in an apprenticeship program. There are some 18 and 19 year olds in my program but, to my surprise, I found that more than half the class was older than me but I seemed to be one of two people who had a degree.

I intend to work in an oil field when the opportunity comes.

Both parents graduated in the late 1960s and, according to them, a degree did not result in a job. Both parents had to attend subsequent professional programs which involved years of studying, interning, hard work and luck.

My Father insisted once - if he had to do it all over again - he would had been a Teacher (for the pension and to live in an area with a lower cost of living) and would had stuck with the one kid (me and my siblings were definitely a handful.  Cheesy )

I have a degree but never entertained the illusion, like some of the kids, that I would had graduated into a job at the Hedge Fund or some Fortune 500 company. I happen to know many people with good degrees (like engineering), in their late 20s and 30s, who are working at grocery stores and other dead end job. These people I know would rather work a low income service job than learn a trade or be a technician (it is beneath them - such is entitlement, entitlement is never rationale).

A degree ~ any degree ~ is a requirement for a lot of professional programs. You can apply and be admitted to an CPA Diploma in both the United States (and other Anglo countries) with any degree (even feminist literature). You can also get into Law School. Most degrees are accepted in the military (officers), a requirement for a lot of government jobs (policemen and firemen in a lot of areas now want applicants with degrees), et al.

A Bachelor's Degree can also open up second degrees. If I wanted to be a Nurse, for instance, I am qualified with my current degree to take a condensed two year degree which will grant me a Bachelor of Nursing (equivalent to a four year), samething if I wanted a computer science degree to work as a programmer. As you can imagine, that saves you a lot of time and money if you have to retrain for another career (due to the economy or a change in your life priorities).
.
Myself I never entertained any illusion that a degree would had led to a job at some Hedge Fund, let alone "a" job. Right now I am in technical school and I have various associations begging me to work for them in the future, since it's very rare to have a student with a degree in my field (I am essentially guaranteed to make management unless I burn bridges).

At least he isn't a caught thief.

The irony is TaunSew and you could have been buddies because he severely dislikes NXT as well.

Amazing how so much FUD can fit into one small sentence:

Who are 'these people' ?
Greeks ? Those evil Dutch.....what are you on about ?

'Attending technical school' now means the same thing as 'Chronically unemployed' ?

'In debt' ....where did that detail come from ?

Now we're on the topic of chronic unemployment, what do you do all day, Joshua ?

Its fairly common for these people to be chronically unemployed and in debt.

that is because of priorities.

i COULD have made faaar far more money around here if money was more important to me but it's not.

hence the scammers............ mocking poor people

a good example is YOU asking for a fortune in coins then walking off with it.
i would never even consider doing that never mind actually do it.

poor = often class and integrity man Wink

i have had one stuck mouthy conceded prick around here mock me for working at a Wendy's burger joint before eh..
and that was because he was doing what he always does and that is lurks like a coward spying on us all.

i told a buddy during a related conversation on Cryptsy chat *publicly that i had a friend who i worked with me at a Newspaper (my 1st job of 2)
and the guy had grabbed a second job for the extra chump change earnings and the kicker.. FREE FOOD Smiley
ya free taco's mutha fucka's !!
so..
I thought fuck bro you know i'm likin' your style guy and i am thinkin' of doing the same.
and i thought what place woudl i like to eat at ?
Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers YUMMY TIME ..it's on now !!!
i did and i got soooooooooo much free food it was silly.. i just cooked food and ate it when ever i wanted while working too LOL
ashamed ?
fuck to the no bitches.. get on your knee's and blow me ! AHHAHAHA
like i give a flying fuck what anyone thinks LOLOLOL

and when i said that the sneaky little mouth piece cunt who was hiding as usual (iGotSpots) all of a sudden started talking..
then dived on me like a maggot on shit mocking me for it and it's funny because the cocky prick was a carpet cleaner AHHAHAHHAHHA

and i said to him you think your gonna win over the crowd reading this chat ? mocking a guy who got a second job to pay the bills ?
I said i need the extra spending cash, i rented my own 2 bedroom apt. (by myself at the time) and utilities etc and everything costs an assload of money these days !
so my point was congrats on mocking lower class / poorer people publicly i am sure they are gonna really respect that shit Coin Cloner carpet cleaner from Wisconsin LOL

i have found most people with money have none.. their parents do         .

PS:
Why pay people for info on their personal lives when you can simply ask them ?
ya wow eh ? what a concept LOL

ohh god lol Bitcointalk you make me ROFL Roll Eyes

@TaunSew
I can't think of any reason for me to hate on you or disagree with you or anything..
so sorry if my last comment seemed like i was against you.. i don't think i am eh

not against the OP either i just think his shady donation scandal was pretty lame but hey what can i do about it ?

if my comments are against anyone it's the guy who has been sneaking around Trolling on me for a year and a half and failing miserably LOL
he comes out says nasty off-topic shit to me makes wild accusations then quietly backs up and fades into the background grinning
like a pyromaniac who just lit a fire and is watching it. LOL

i am for or against ideas and not really the people around here.
it ain't personal to me Wink

I posted earlier because i had a good perspective to add that was not added yet nothing more.
