You don't know what would've happened if you didn't sell.

Maybe you sold to some people who got excited about NXT and contributed to its market price rise. If you hadn't sold, maybe the price would've crashed. Decisions you make affect the future.

My mistake will haunt me for the rest of my life.
Ha ha haaaa... you "lost" just 17 000 USD... ONCE...

I can say I "lost" more than 10 times that every year since I touched a bitcoin. Also a buddy of mine "lost" millions in two years on several instances. We're just amateurs, can't compete with the likes of Karpeles for example...

Things like people panicking when bitcoin drops 300$ makes us laugh with nostalgia... welcome to the club!

I know that feel. If only...if only...it's such a strong feeling I can't see it ever going away, unfortunately, unless you strike gold once again by investing in something else.

Yeah, I did that with a few coins too. I also told myself never again. So now I'm hodling my BTSX and any new dacs that come out. Never again. At least I got a second chance.

I once formatted over 17000 bitcoins in 2010 when gpu mining first started because I couldn't get a clean install of cat after an uninstall.

Used Gparted and it wasn't worth reconstructing the partition.

This guy lost 17K some other guy lost a Hard Drive in England with a similar stash, so the total of BTC is not 21M. How many BTC would be really available right now?

Quote
A farmer and his son had a beloved stallion who helped the family earn a living. One day, the horse ran away and their neighbors exclaimed, “Your horse ran away, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

A few days later, the horse returned home, leading a few wild mares back to the farm as well. The neighbors shouted out, “Your horse has returned, and brought several horses home with him. What great luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

Later that week, the farmer’s son was trying to break one of the mares and she threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. The villagers cried, “Your son broke his leg, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

A few weeks later, soldiers from the national army marched through town, recruiting all the able-bodied boys for the army. They did not take the farmer’s son, still recovering from his injury. Friends shouted, “Your boy is spared, what tremendous luck!” To which the farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

The life is too short so you will not regret forever... Even if you make 1 million USD you still will fart into same ground like people who made only these similar fails.

Better try to make something what will be more eternal than your bucks or body. Try to start with writing a nice novel about your unsuccesses, people love these stories.  Grin

I wonder this myself. Plus when you think about the thousands of addresses that have dust that will never be removed from them... There's got to be a significant amount of BTC that is just gone forever, maybe 5% of total mined?

Well, just wanted to make myself more angry at myself than I have been for the past year. Always thinking about this big mistake. How much I could have had, if I had not been naive and greedy. An investment of 0.05BTC, about 50$ at the time, gave me the following. When NXT released, I thought nothing of it, and sold for I think about 2.5BTC in total. I could have done all of the things I struggle to do now because of lack of funding (businesses, services, etc)

My mistake will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Please learn from my mistake. Hold onto IPO's this big for as long as possible. If you can, just buy it, get it in your wallet, and forget about it for a month or 2...

*Sigh*

Most of all were at the right time or damn close to get quick rich in this forum. But don't take it so hard! We are making a very interesting work here, just keep following the nice stuff is appearing each day and work hard on it Wink

There really is no lesson to be learned here.

For every seller that wishes they'd held - there are dozens of holders that wish they'd sold.

If you consider an altcoin an investment - you should know why you got in it and what will trigger you getting out.

Your only mistake is being upset you didn't "make more." Profit is profit and you should be extremely happy with how you did

Having a short memory and knowing when to sell for a loss are the two toughest things to learn for a trader. Looks like Lesson 1 is in the books  Wink
