BFL Single + Delta = Whoosh!

Standard motherboard risers were needed to get it high enough over the heatsink. This is the first release of the BFL single

Using Delta fan, Dell P/N P2780.
Running it at full speed, simply connected the black to ground, the red to +12v from the computer's Power Supply.
@ 2.5a I'd not recommend connecting it to the BFL single's fan port!

Does it have vibration dumpers, vibration might not be good for the solder on any component above 60c.

Hopefully that's going to a fan controller.. I take it the 92X92X38 does not fit inside the case? I've been waiting for someone to say the max amps we can run off the single fan connector. All of my 10 came with a bottom fan.  It's just a little 40mm thing inside the bottom of the case though... not sure why people are making a big deal over it.  Regardless, they all stay below 60c, and none of them throttle.  And now I only have 4 of them left, and they're running even cooler (more space between them).

Correct.  Some are still shipping with a bottom fan bodged on.  At least they didn't take a sawzall to the case as they did with gigavps's first Rev 1.

While this is definitely a BFL design issue, FPGAs are notorious for thermal inconsistency across the same chip type and program.

I see; I am just entering the field of FPGAs and am expecting my first BFL Single to arrive this afternoon, so that is useful information for me, thanks!

Mine came with the same 80mm fan that is inside the case.  Except this is mounted on the bottom, outside the case.

Oh, so there's two different types of bottom fans then?

Eh, I'll have to look more closely to find out exactly what it is.  None of mine came with an 80mm mounted to the bottom though.

Some of the new rev 3's throttle at 54c. I have mine in a 66f room and they seem to throttle with anything higher. I had move them about a foot off the ground or they throttle. The viewable temp does not seem relevant to when they throttle. Replacing the pins that hold down the heatstink with bolts lowered the temp on mine about 3-4 degrees. Those pins are cheap crap they come with, most seem to break off or come lose in shipping.

Yeah, like I said, I didn't see any of them throttling.  When I had all 10 of them running (in a 70F room), I know a few were close to 60C.  That was with them all literally touching each other in a line though.  Now that I have just 4 of them running, I turned up the A/C to 72F and now two are at 52C, and two are at 45C.  None of the pins came loose or broke in shipping that I knew of.  I haven't opened them all up though.  One of them did have a screw loose on the main 80mm fan up top though.  A quick tightening, and all was good.
