How do I move my coins from Bitcoin Core to Multibit?

Safest and easiest way is to just install multibit, get an address and send the coins via blockchain.

You could also export the private keys and import them into multbit, but Id go for the blockchain.

Importing keys is also risky as the way most people will do it will end up importing it in plaintext which will leave a near permanent "mark" on your harddrive so it would be vulnerable in the event your computer is ever compromised in the future

Just send the money through the network and you are good to go. Not sure if saving 10 to 30 bits of transaction fee is worth all the hassles of messing up with the private key.

1') copy
2) open bitcoin core
3) do a transaction
4) paste
5) send amount
6) verify received fund in multibit
7) destroy bitcoin core
8 ) save multibit wallet to EXTERNAL

... done.

Why drag that aweful buggy online service into this? Just send the coins directly no need to get private keys online to a 3rd party.

if you dont want to waste btc in transaction fee, the only way to do so will be to copy the private keys

 paste it in a text file and save the file as .KEY

import the key file in the multibit client..

If you have private keys holding any significant amount on a networked computer, you are doing it wrong to begin with.

That really depends on your level of paranoia and your security setup. You could potentially keep larger amounts of bitcoin in your hot wallet and still keep them secure.

@OP the best way is probably to push a TX to an address that was created by multibit
