This question was triggered by hearing the very entertaining podcast below. In it they explore why people root for the underdog 80% of the time and the others root for the expected winner.

Can Bitcoin be seen as an underdog? Or do you view it as the long-term winner over established national currencies (i.e. it'll just be a matter of time)? Your perspective has an impact on how you might support Bitcoin so think about it!

I personally think of Bitcoin as a completely guerrilla currency because I strongly suspect that if/when it gains any significant traction, that will be the role it is forced into like it or not.  I anticipate that the forces which aligned against Bitcoin if/when the shooting starts will render Bitcoin a significant underdog, but the strengths that it possesses do not preclude a favorable outcome and it could win some notable skirmishes or pitched battles from time to time.
