Bitcoint Accounting

I've started using BTC for my daily purchases since Gyft started selling Wholefoods/Target cards for bitcoin. Tigerdirect for my computer needs. Etc,etc.

The drawback is that my Creditcard provided a nice usage report with graphs and all, I understand that they have also been selling my buying patterns to third parties but that is not the main point.

I've effectively lost that very convenient part of my daily purchases, is there any tool that could help me categorize (automatically or manually) my daily expenses, think quicken for BTC.

Any suggestions?

There's very few accounting programs I know of that caters for bitcoin. Look for one which provides multiple currencies and setup a bitcoin account. Most packages also do not allow for the 8 digits required for bitcoin so you will have to enter your bitcoin values as bits i.e. 1,000,000.00 = 1 BTC.

All you need to do then is enter the exchange rate (none that I know of can sync the exchange rate) and update.

I personally make use of jGnash. Looked at almost all and this was the only one which worked like a charm for my multi currency accounts as well as for bitcoin and basically any other altcoin. You just need to set them up right.

I now have a detailed view of all my bank accounts as well as crypto accounts etc...

Do you need professional accounting software for business use, or just a nice looking stats for personal use?

If latter, bitcoin protocol itself won't provide you with charts etc. Don't know if any wallets/3rd parties do, but if that's important to you, you can just label every spending and create/analyse stats by yourself (Excell spreadsheet) as often as you need (once a week, month etc). It's really not that difficult nor time consuming.

Treat bitcoin as another foreign currency like Euro or Yen. You simply need an accounting software that support multi currency.

Don't think that was what OP meant. Some banks, cc would produce a stats of your income/expenses, something like: "this month you've spent 20% of your income on food, 10% on gas, 50% on alcohol..." etc.

Accounting software usually requires to input data on regular basis, so not really suitable for personal, non-business use.

You might try the Google Chrome app called "Wave Accounting". I know a lot of people were requesting they include bitcoin as an option for invoicing, so maybe they have implemented it by now.

I think any accounting package would do it, only problem could be using bitcoin as a currency because I don't think any software makers added bitcoin in currency list.

I can manually create an excel spreadsheet for it and do the accounting. Let me know if you are interested.
