Yeah, this won't really work. Not sure if avatars should be limited to a certain rank either. Everyone could have them before the hack and all this will do is cause confusion and countless threads from newbs asking why they can't have avatars.

I wouldn't think so. Yes, a couple of threads were made regarding why users couldn't add or change avatars after the hack but not many people ask anymore (the message got across pretty fast), possibly due to the message when you attempt to add/change an avatar.

But it would also be a disaster if everyone decided to change to the same avatar (it has been done in the past).

Actually that would be quite amusing!

Why? There are some users with e.g. your avatar and I fail to see any "disaster", you only have to pay attention to the username, which is unique.

Rather, I'd put some effort into usernames rather than avatars, to avoid the "theyrnos" issue that caused actual loss of funds to some (admittedly clueless) people.

The username is a small part of noticing a member. The first thing we tend to notice is the avatar.

That's quite true, marco and I have mistaken each others posts for our own quite a few times (I still sometimes do it if I'm not paying proper attention).

Will say about this later!

I don't know what to say about this.

- no two members can have the same avatar

I understand! I don't think it will be implemented, anyway, even if it is implemented, there must be an option to upload same avatar for users even if it is taken such as users in a company, Trezor for example. So they may like to put the logo as their profile pic. So I don't think it is a good idea.

Do you have the authority to add avatars to member profiles? What is the purpose of adding avatar images here on this thread? When the new forum software is live, we can add avatars ourselves.

Before the forum was hacked, anyone could add any avatar (or at least above newbie level). The point of this thread is to suggest restrictions to avoid confusion with the large influx of users who will be using avatars.

I get what you mean now. I though you meant we should "contribute our own" avatar images on this thread, but in fact you would like us to suggest rules on avatar upload when the new forum software is live.

I've confused you two before and others with the same ones as it's an easy mistake to make when people use stock avatars, but if you upload your own 99% of the time this probably won't be a problem. I don't think people should be disbarred from having the same ones, though.

I really want an avatar to find my own posts. I hope the new version will be done soon. I also think a unique avatar for each member is a good idea.

I think there was supposed to be a preview back in August, so I think they are behind schedule.   Undecided

I don't care if it's late - just as long as it's done correctly.   Smiley

The size of the avatar should be based on last update.   Keep the same avatar for 2 years and have it display as it is now.   Wink

This is true, however users on this forum especially could easily create an avatar that is different from another user's avatar because of only a few pixels, so it would be "different" but not noticeably different to the human eye.

I think it should be more obvious when you are dealing with 'trusted' people like theymos when you are dealing with an imposter as trusted people have positive trust while imposters  will almost always have neutral trust (until their scheme is discovered at which point they will receive negative trust)

I would like to keep avatar restrictions as present currently, to show that we are special Cool

We should be allowed one change. Put up this avatar to earn some free coins and stuck with it now Sad
