Japan Wants to be the Most Bitcoin Friendly Country

All year we have chronicled the various ways nation-states have chosen to mis-categorize and malign Bitcoin. The influence of fear, corporate interests, confusion, or the illusion of financial terrorism has caused many a short circuit when it comes to Bitcoin, and official government responses have run the gamut.

The Yakuza want their MtGox-Bitcoins to be accepted, isn't that obvious? Wink

Yeah, well, I'm gonna go build my own blockchain. With blackjack and hookers! In fact forget the blockchain.

Knowing their culture of social conformity and submission to authority, I doubt this is going to happen.

This is not an official stance of the Japanese government. The ruling party is going to support a self-regulating authority formed by the Japan bitcoin community. See it as a consulting committee.

Depends on who you talk to I'd say, certainly the older generation stresses all that obedience bullshit, but the younger people are generally a lot more relaxed from what I know, it's just like any other country, it's usually the old people that are trying to oppress the younger generation which is why they do everything they can to limit the younger generations' political power.
