The world has changed, science has advanced, believers have evolved. It would be extremely stupid for any religion to argue against evolution and big bang theories. Religions have to evolve too. Hence, twist traditional religious beliefs to fit the science. The Pope has basically admitted the book of genesis is a fairly tale.
