Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing issues with Bitcoin-Core 64-bit on Windows 7. I have used the command line argument -datadir=H:\AppData\Bitcoin to download the blockchain to my external HDD. This has been working fine. All of a sudden, the software says "Synchronising with network. . ." and is working veeeeeery slooooooowly. Overnight, it's gone from approximately 1 year 25 weeks behind to 1 year 10 weeks behind. Any idea what I should do?

How much memory do you have on the machine?  Perhaps you are connected to a slow peer?  How is your external drive connected?  USB?

[Edit:post above me that suggested this was removed:] You no doubt know, but Blockchain support wouldn't be appropriate here since this is Bitcoin core, not blockchain.info.

Use the datatorrent!
Seriously, use it. Most of the time people have problems syncing its because they are connected to a slow node thats used for syncing. Its faster to just get the torrent and do the rest with good nodes. I have a list, but I cant access it atm, but if you look around tech support threads that deal with slow sync you will find it.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

It is going to be very slow using an external drive. The update procedure uses a lot of disk I/O. I would recommend that you download and update using your fastest hard drive (with 20GB free), and then move the whole directory to the alternate storage media and use the new datadir option after the blockchain download is caught up.
