Hi All

I use Multibit as my main storage for BTC, i always backup the files as required when i add another encrypted wallet when i reach reach a set amount of coins.

What have NEVER done is run Multibit on another new laptop and recovered my wallets using the saved details.

My thinking is having multibit running on a second pc will give me instant access if my main pc is faulty.

So i willl be basically setting it up on a second pc if possible.

Can this be done and if so how, i always save EVERY backup file .

Thanks

Just send to your new address if you are not comfortable using the import/export private key feature (under tools).

So if i export a private key from my current pc and import to my second pc it will be a 'mirror' image ?

I will basically have two pc's running multibit with the same wallets/details etc ??

I am scared if my currnt pc develops a problem and it's the only one with Multibit running on it.

Just send to your new address if you are not comfortable using the import/export private key feature (under tools).
You could achieve this with some complex networking, will probably have to hire someone to come out but:

>Create a network share on the laptop
>Note the locations of your current backup files
>Create a powershell script to automatically copy the backup files to your network share on the laptop
>Create a scheduled task to run that script every 6 hours or so

As I said a little complex but that's the only way I can think of doing it.

EDIT: Another option may be: purchase a RAID card for your PC and an extra HDD (same space as original HDD).
Then setup raid 1 which will mirror both hard drives 24/7 for redundancy.

You just gotta pray nobody breaks in and steals your computer.

Way to complex !!!!

I thought you could run multiple multibit programs on numerous pc's.

Looks like i just have to keep backing up and HOPE my pc does not fail !!!!!!

Don't like that to be honest as i have NEVER recovered Multibit and hope it can be done, works  Embarrassed

the problem with running multibit on multiple computers is that if you use one instance of multibit to create a new address, the wallets will not stay in sync and you could potentially lose access to some of your money if there is bitcoin on one newly created address and you do not keep the backup of this wallet safe.

Multibit also records translations in a strange way when a transaction is sent to/from an address controlled by multibit but not sent by multibit, you will a correct balance but the UI will look strange
