depending on how the Internet is used, if the Internet is used to gather the masses via social media such as facebook and twitter, also used to gather public opinion, it is possible that the Internet can be used to bring down a regime, moreover now many people in the world wear them to social media look at the current world situation, it could be the authorities see a regime not only on television but also seen on the internet crate youtube.com

The US government actually tried this with their own special version of twitter in Cuba and failed.

I would somewhat doubt the effectiveness of the internet of being able to topple governmnets
