This made me puke. I've been fighting Monsanto for over 10 years. Now I see the President of Bitcoin Argentina, a non-profit group supposedly representing the people of Argentina, and Bitcoin users of Argentina will be at a Bitcoin event, with the main sponsor being Monsanto... an event organised by someone who classifies himself as a "libertarian" no less.

The thing is, a quick check on the Bitcoin Argentina Facebook group confirms that most are against Monsanto, especially after I've posted there.

I shall be there at the door to let my feelings known and aim to disrupt the event as much as I can.

I rely on Bitcoiners of good conscious to let the world know that the non-profit group Bitcoin Argentina DOES NOT represent Bitcoin users in Argentina. Thank you.

Someone like Monsanto, who wants to centralize all crop rights in one entity associated with Bitcoin doesn't make any sense.
What are they doing there?

Argentina whilst small on the world financial stage is (relatively) big in Bitcoin. Of course most are fake libertarians as can be seen by their ability to get in bed with Monsanto, Dow Chemical and Cargill. Anything for a buck. Wonder if anyone has any BitPay contacts to ask them WTF are they doing there too? Why do I feel this story should be bigger than it is - I mean Monsanto & Bitcoin is like a big flashing W-T-F for me! WTF?!   Huh

This is the other speaker, and apparently organizer of this Bitcoin Event. A failed politican - I don't know why because his hyper-hypocrisy makes him a perfect politican!

The top line reads: "Individual Rights... Free Markets... No aggression". He's a liberal libertarian.... eligiserlibre.com - choosetobefree.com !

Yeah, Monsanto who gave you that paycheck really stand for those things!

That list of sponsors really is something else.

One could argue that Bitcoin needs to go true mainstream for it to be successful but I for one do really hope it/we won't be successful just by being another brick in the wall and by the grace of the powers that be.

I hope the organizer will get a lot of flak for this from the community.

I cannot believe that a Bitcoin event is being sponsored by all of those major companies.

Are you sure it is not another event sponsored by those companies that happens to have some Bitcoin speakers?

ie...since when has American Express started sponsoring Bitcoin events?

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.

Uhm, libertarians generally believe in minimalistic government and strong individual property rights. Unlike socialists and liberals, they have no problems with big corporations, as long as these corporations do not subvert the free markets and do not infringe on their property rights.

A libertarian can fight a company like Monsanto if it pollutes his environment - but at the same time he can defend Monsanto from government attempts to over-tax and over-regulate it.

Basically, libertarians are very "I don't care what you do, as long as you leave me alone" people.

This.

There's no way that all those companies sponsor Bitcoin Argentina.

I'm pretty sure that their sponsorship relates to AmCham Argentina (American Chamber of Commerce?), and the AmCham is hosting/partnering the bitcoin event.

So don't really see a problem here.

The entire reason Bitcoin is going to take off in south american countries is because of all the corruption in the government.  This logic might also be extended to the Bitcoin world down there too.  It's part of their culture.  A relative lack of "who gives a shit" about right and wrong is commonplace in many South American countries.

Many laws are optional.  Cops turn a blind eye to people breaking rules right on the streets.  The integrity of such a population is questionable at times. It's not considered a bad thing.  Its just part of their culture.  Nobody gets all bent out of shape over it.  Its just how they live.  Try coming to Miami sometime...

In such an environment, are any of you really shocked that shennanigans like this are happening?  In a place where stoplights are optional, pretty sure a fat check from Monsanto was welcomed, to get the conference off the ground.  They often don't seem to worry themselves with special interest protest issues, when $ is available.  I realize this post is somewhat risky to write.  And I don't mean to offend anyone.

I just can't help but think the mentality down there of "whatever whatever", is playing a role in this.

It appears that the Argentina Chamber of Commerce is having a Member to Member event to introduce members to each other, the Bitcoin portion being an "introduction to Bitcoin" in the area of finance, IT, marketing, etc.

Far from OP's claim that Monsanto is sponsoring Bitcoin Argentina.

If done properly bitcoin offers the ability to control the population like never seen before...

Yep. I know what a shock it is that someone would grossly exaggerate at these forums, but Elwar for the win!

Besides, for the same reasons no one can stop me from using bitcoin, no one can stop Monsanto from using it also. Fair does not mean that the wicked are punished.

And the more usage the better - even if some people don't agree with some of the others who are using it.  Tools are neutral and can be used for good or evil.
