Hi guys,
I've been doing some research, and i think this is the best mining rig I could get right?

Getting it when I get some money together... Smiley

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Damn, that motherboard looks sweet. That build would cost me around £700 caseless with 4x 5850s.

I'm just wondering whether it's worth the extra £30 to get a 5870 here in the UK... I just had my first 5870 delivered today and it's pretty sweet doing 370MHash/s

The test bench look nice but it doesn't look like it allows for a lot of airflow around the cards. I would be more inclined to go with something like this http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12912/cpa-581/Lian_Li_Replacement_PC-Q06_Modders_ATX_Aluminum_Motherboard_Tray_-_Anodized_Silver_Q6ATX.html?tl=g43c241s905&id=njWRYwV3 if you don't want a full case.

If it's a 8+2 phase or, is 4+1 and has mofet coolers, i believe you are good to go with the mobo. Where is the cooler? The stock cooler(box) is very loud, believe me.

in constructed the exact same rig a week ago. let me tell you from experience: the 4 5850s fit nicely onto the mainboard, installed archlinux and am mining since.
with about 1,1 Ghash/s. one problem is the tight packing of the graphics cards, which generate huge amounts of heat. if i could find a way to cool them more, i would probably get 1,25 Ghash, but so far no luck. other than that i got the parts for about 750 euro in germany, but i also didnt need a case and 1 gb of ram are absolutely enough. due to the huge increase in difficulty i fear the rig will lose profitability before it pays for itself. i should have invested the money right away, but now i have a nice mining operation running, thats also a lot of fun Smiley

You should really go for the new Sapphire 5850 Extreme though.
-Smaller card = room for a 220 fan behind them.
-Better cooler, same as the 6XXX series use.
-Better voltage control for better overclocking.

I run my 5850 at;
1055 Core.
375 Memory.
1.25 V (or was it 2.25? w/e)
Pushing 420Mash/s..

i bought the hardware from my local hardware dealer for a reasonable price (115€ per sapphire 5850 xtreme), you might look at http://geizhals.at/eu/a630270.html for dealers that ship to belgium.

Your local hardware store /webshop? I can get them here for 110€ each but Sweden got high tax on high tax.. I think newegg had them for 140$ each (70-80€) so it would probably be around that price near you..

Sapphire already sold out all the 5850 xtreme cards, and they will be never be in production again (no more chips), looks like amazon brought a lot of them, so when them run out, its forever, so if you going to pick up some of these cards hurry up.

About the best mining machine for the buck i prefer to look for remainings GA-MA770T-UD3 or UD3P. You can place up to 5 cards using x1 risers, and up to 7 using two pci to pci-e adapters.

has anyone ordered the sapphire 5850 xtreme from amazon?  they say takes 1 to 4 weeks to ship, seems like a long time.  anyone know why?  or if they ship faster?  i want to order some but might pay an extra $10 to get them from Tigerdirect if amazon is going to sit on them for a month.

Hey, I can definitely contribute here in very helpful ways. I put together almost the same system as yours about a week ago...

MSI 890fxa-gd70 motherboard, amd sempron 140 processor, 4x Sapphire 5850 XTREME, and a 1kw OCZ psu.

My thoughts on this...

Its hard to keep the cards cool overclocked. I redid the thermal paste, and had to put a spacer between two of the cards to get better airflow.

Also, a 1kw power supply is overkill. My entire system pulls around 670 watts according to a kill-a-watt. Im using stock core voltage for now, but i assume you can adjust for overclocking with my figures.

Make SURE the case you get has 8x slots on the back... Most have 7. I didnt pay attention to that, and had to "mod" the case to make 4x cards fit in there.

Right now my 4 cards are running at 875-800 core/memory, and they're putting out about 1225 mhash/s (1.225 ghash/s).
