Need to look busier? Make sure your office ppears swamped at all times. Your desk should always look like you're in the midst of some incredibly time-sensitive project. This way you can safely maximize the time you spend checking your facebook. For added protection, make sure the papers on your desk are arranged in stacks. A calculator, a few stray apples and a strategically placed pair of eyeglasses will round out the organized chaos effect. Finally, some work on your computer screen that you can immediately access away from facebook when your boss checks on you. A carefully placed sandwich remnants will do much to make you appear to eat lunch at your desk, making you seem too busy. Be sure though, to throw it in the trash when you're off, otherwise insects may catch on you.

Too bad none of this actually works outside of the movies/TV. I am certain that your boss will notice when you are not getting your work done, and that your boss should know what it looks like to be "busy"

Most companies will not care how busy you are throughout the day as long as you are sufficiently productive

On the other hand, if you were simply more effective at what you do, you wouldn't need to appear to be busier than you are. In fact, if you always appear to be busy yet you accomplish nothing, then you are exhibiting incompetence and are probably more likely to be replaced.

Boss only care about the results.

A successful slacker can only get away if he can deliver whatever the boss assigned you.

Good stuff

I can see the insects catching on to you as well, slacking efficiently.
As long as the results are done by someone in the end.

Good employees are employees who know the position and duties as employees, not employees pretending to be busy, or is considered busy and have a lot of projects, but did not produce anything for the company, if indeed you are an employee of the Work in accordance with the job description your work, so you get paid is because of hard work and perseverance you work in a company ...  Roll Eyes

On the other hand, if you were simply more effective at what you do, you wouldn't need to appear to be busier than you are. In fact, if you always appear to be busy yet you accomplish nothing, then you are exhibiting incompetence and are probably more likely to be replaced.
+1 on this.

Also if you rarely appear busy then you are also likely to be replaced, because you will be promoted and your old position will be available

The woman I used to share an office with when I first started at my job would come in at 10:30am, complain about how she had nothing to do (when, in reality, she had a lot to do), and proceeded to leave at 2:30pm, claiming, "I'll just work from home the rest of the day".
She also napped at her desk, walked around barefoot, watched movies, talked to her friends loudly on the phone, fell asleep in meetings, and often took naps in her car.
